How much $$$ should I pay to change the timing belt (99 Sienna)?
In shopping around to find a place to change the timing belt, I'm finding a wide variety of quotes. Obviously, price isn't the only consideration, but I was wondering what the usual price is for something like this?
Also, is there any other work that should be done at the same time? Tensioners, water pump, drive belts etc?
I also said at MAX...I said max, cause if you dont really know what ur doing, You'll prolly have ur internet on and consult Tn. You also might have to check and see if you've done everything properly and such...I remember when i helped my friend install his Short Shifter on his Protege, He went on his forum in the middle to make sure that your supposed to put the Jack on the dome..(the dome was not centered it was a little to the right) That project took us like 3-4 hrs. And it was in Minnesota when it was like 10-20 degrees out..Brr..
ummm....for something like a timing belt, it's best not to touch it when all you have is a haynes manual and a forum to ask around on.....
makes sense if you do it with someone who's done it before, and learn that way and do it later yourself, but there are plenty of little things that you could do wrong/forget as there are a number of things to remove to just get to the belts

249.99 for 6 / 199.99 for 4, this price are good in Houston area Toyota dealer.
I changed my 1999 Sienna timing Belt. It took me 3 afternoons. I had Haynes manual and previous experience and sound mechanical knowledge. Its a lot of work. For non professionals DIYs Its a challenge. I have complete list of tools required and corrct method. If you need help pls do drop me a line.. saa_33@bigfoot.com . Haynes manual is 80% help.
The Previa has a timing chain, so no belt. If you do get someone else to do it, make sure to use a Toyota belt, there have been stories that say that aftermarket ones are not as good.
Keep in mind the dealer specials only give you the price for a belt swap. It'll be a lot more after they call you up and tell you that it also needs a water pump and idler pulleys and tensioner.
