Which air fuel sensor to use in 2000 CA Sienna

Greetings. First post.

I am the proud owner of a 2000 Sienna with the California emissions. It has active check engine codes P1150 and P1155 which relate to one of the air fuel sensors.

Believe I need to change the rear, by the firewall, but Denso lists them as left (234-9007) and right (234-9009. I only see front and rear. Which is what?

I can't see where the cable ends, but then too I was just sliding under the car with a flashlight. Where is it, how is it reached and undone?

Thank you for your guidance.

It's the rear one. The front one is really easy. The rear one takes patience. Safely support the van and get under it. Reach up behind the motor and it's right there. It's just below the exhaust manifold. It's tricky to get your hand in there between the firewall, steering rack, steering lines, and motor. The plug is harder to get than the sensor. I did it the easy way last time and had my daughter plug it back in with her tiny hands.

I see online code means it's the rear one.

Is the rear left or right?

It's likely the left (234-9007) but I'm not sure. i can't see where the connector for this goes. It seems to run into the jumble of stuff near the top of the engine. Where, exactly, is it?

Question

any update on this? Did you successfully replace the sensor? I have a p1153 code and I wonder if it's the same sensor.

I also get P1130 and P1135 codes which are Bank1 Sensor1, which is easier to replace I think (mass air flow sensor, correct?)?

Bank1 Sensor1 refers to the harder to replace oxygen sensor. In this case the term oxygen sensor is used loosely because it's technically and air/fuel sensor. Either way Bank1Sensor1 is the sensor in the exhaust just after the rear exhaust manifold.

The sensor is way back in there. You can't get to it from the top at all. You have to safely support the van and get under it. All the way back at the firewall the exhaust comes out of the rear head and comes down. Half way down is the sensor. An open wrench will take it off usually if you don't live in the rust belt. The plug is on up there some more. Just follow the wire. The first time I changed mine I used one hand to unplug/plug the sensors. The second time I got my 12yo daughter to do it. It took me 45 minutes of intense frustration. It took her less than 30 seconds.

thank very much for those detailed directions BlackSunshine! Do you have directions for replacing B1S2? I heard that one is easier and I have a problem with that one too so I might try replacing that one first to see what that fixes. Do they have to be replaced in pairs? I'm not sure what brand part to buy. I think I currently have Toyota OEM parts that meet Cali. emissions standards. But I've heard others recommend Bosch or Denso so I'm confused.

Need confrimation that code P1150 and P1155 are for the sensor that's on the back side of the engine, under the windshild wipers, Toyota part 234-9009 before buying one.

"I also get P1130 and P1135 codes which are Bank1 Sensor1"

Me too. Trying to find the proper sensor for CA equiq has been a pain. This one looks like the appropriate OE model: Denso 234-9009. It's $98 on Amazon.com right now. For the non CA Equip models it looks like you can use Denso 234-4622 which is just $51 on Amazon.com.

My only concern, before I order this part is that it says "Front Right". I don't know if this means that it will not fit on the other side (non firewall side). I can seem to find the "front left" part for comparison. If anyone has advice on this please let us know.

Also, there is a good video on how to change the tighter sensor here:
