2000 Sienna overheats
190,000 miles on the car, engine has been overheating. Compression tests on cylinders: #1=180, #2=188, #3=133, #4=178, #5=147, #6=160. No bubbling out of the filler cap. Car will go about a mile or so from cold to hot (in the red). It has boiled over before when the weather was hot, but since I have not driven it far enough to cause that. Once it heats to red, I ease it back down the hill to my house, although it does cool down some on the way back down the hill.
I have a leak in the exhaust, the flex connector where the header goes to the cat pipe. It is coding for a plugged cat, so I busted through the old cat to allow it to breath, but it still overheats. No sense in putting a new cat on if the car is toast!
With the compressions, I am wondering if the head gasket is okay. What else would cause this action? I replaced the water pump about 70,000 miles ago. Top hose feels tight when it is running.
