Smile 2001XLE transmission...

Hi Folks;
The action on my van's shift lever is noticeably stiffer than it once was, and it can be difficult to get it into the 'Park' position, such that I sometimes have to 'rack' it a couple of times, or reengage the transmission in either 'D' or 'R' in order to get the 'P' to come up green on the racking manoeuvre, so that the starter will engage on the next start attempt.

My Sienna hasn't had a transmission oil change since I can remember (>100K mi. on it) . Will a transmission oil change fix this? or is it likely more serious?

Thanx in advance for your advice

Answer...

FYI- Diagnosed as a seized 'shifter pivot' @ $27 for the part, and some 30 minutes labor. Shifter action is now 'Smooth like butta'
Hope that helps someone else.

Cheerio!

It wouldn't hurt for you to do a transmission fluid change as well.
