Question Charging Laptop in Car - what to buy?

Anybody have recommendations of a brand of adapter to buy to use for running a laptop off of the cigarette lighter? How quickly would this run down the car battery? Or are those adapters only for smaller devices like iPhones?

You will need to check the power rating of the converter you are looking to buy.
It will be given in WATTS.....such as 80 Watts.......250 Watts, etc.
I just looked one up (I think it is 80 Watts) and it states that it shuts down when the vehicle battery gets low.

Compare the Watt rating of the Laptop power input to the converter.
The Converter power rating should be MORE than the rated power draw of the laptop (plus anything else that you may plug into it).

The converters can range from a simple plug-in to the power plug on your vehicle with a 3 prong A/C plug on it......to a plug with a cord...that goes to a small box with a couple of A/C plugs on it (almost always more power rating than the 1st one I mention).
A added plus on many of these units now out is that they have USB power ports on them also.....so you can charge many types of small electronic devices with them.
I have a unit that has a cord to a box and it works very well for me.
Of course, it is not enough to run a power saw off of, but should handle a laptop with no problem.

I still don't know which is the power outlet and which is the lighter (upper and lower receptacles), or which one is connected to the plug in the rear. You should be aware of that.

Mine is rated 300 watts and does fine, although I've never come close to that demand. It's a Belkin, bought it at Neweg g for $15 delivered when on sale.
