Imagine a real tool of a guy, a spec of a man. Not even a man more of strategically shaved chimp. Who owns a Sienna 2003 CE, and had it from 60k miles to a current 100k. This gimp of a guy has neglected to maintain the vehicle other than a timing belt replacement. In terms of neglect, imagine only 3 oil changes in 40k miles. I know, what a git. He is going to have big problems and deserves everything he gets.
Well imagine that he had the nerve to post on a forum such as this, and perhaps he was to post the following:
This weekend I noticed some black residue around the front valve cover gasket drivers side. On closer inspection it appears start to start at the oil cap. So being the curious type I removed the oil cap and peered in, I was greeted by an almost solid puck of gritty black residue. The engine runs fine with no smoke or excessive noise. After a few seconds of research I discovered the term Sludge and what a crime it is to not change the oil every 3000 miles! Next weekend I am planning on pulling the front valve cover to see how bad things are underneath the baffle. So I have a couple of questions
1. I'll change the valve cover gasket, are there any recommendations on where to get these from or a particular brand/source to go for?
2. What are the torque specs and order of tightening for the bolts?
3. I was planning on following the cleaning tips from
SludgeZone, is this out of date or still good advice?
what response could he expect?
Seriously though, thanks for taking the time to read this post and possibly even reply. This forum has already been very useful in getting started on this problem.
