2003 Sienna Sensor removal woes...

Hello,

Bank 1 Sensor 2 oxygen sensor -- P0036 code. This is the most rearward sensor, where its hooked in under the rear seat. Sensor is attached with 2 nuts on 2 bolts thru the exhaust pipe. One bolt is rusted off completely.... The other nut/bolt is severely rusted and will most likely break off without too much effort... Not sure how to get this sensor off, and then reattach a new sensor. Anyone run into this situation??

Thanks!
Dave

I ran into EXACTLY the same situation and had mine replaced at the local Toyota dealership.
I don't think the 2nd bolt was ever there on mine.

This sensor plugs into a plug that is located under the passenger front seat, front left corner.
You do NOT need to remove the seat.
You remove the small plastic trim strip that runs along the left bottom of the passenger seat......3 phillips screws.
Then fold back the carpet and simply unplug the sensor....and push the wire/grommet down through the floor.

Bank1 Sensor 2, downstream oxygen sensor on my 2003 Sienna

Bank1 Sensor2 plug in location, front left side of passenger seat with trim strip removed. Located under cup holder location.

Hi Wiswind,
Yes, my sensor looks exactly like yours in the photo...

Do you recall if the dealer had to replace the exhaust pipe where the sensor goes, in order to install the new sensor?

Just trying to figure out how to get the new one in, because if I remove the old one, there won't be any bolts left to attach the new one too....

Thanks!
Dave

Does anyone know how to remove this sensor from the exhaust pipe (see photo from Wiswind) with one bolt/nut missing and the other rusted beyond repair? And then a way to install the new sensor on the pipe?

I know that I am seriously slipping from my normal routine....but I had already been over the whole underside of my vehicle, a yearly routine for me.
So I have not really looked over their repair job (sorry).
I did look close enough to know that I have 2 nuts now and it is NOT a new pipe.
The repair order said R&R the pipe......and they did not list a new pipe in the bill, so I took that to mean that they repaired it.
I am guessing that they used the "blue wrench" .....heated the nut up to work on it.
However, I do not know exactly what they did to repair it.

Thanks Wiswind, lets me know they can repair it without replacing the pipe.
