P0440 fix it summary, 02 Sienna

Here's my fix it findings from my P0440 code. A P0440 is a Evap emission control system malfunction = emission related code. This code is often a two trip/tank failure so when you reset the CEL in two tanks it'll reappear. Possible simple solutions are a bad gas cap or a vacuum line pulled off the EVAP line. One extremely knowledgeable poster stated that the problem is "most likely a bypass VSV (vacume switching valve) located on the charcoal canister - they always go bad." Don't get this VSV confused with the other two VSV's located on the left and right sides in the engine bay. Page 6-22 in my Chiltons manual. When charcoal canisters fail, most of the time you will get a 440 and a 441 &/or a 446 code as well. I bought an OEM charcoal canister for $375 that came with all the valves (VSV) and solenoid stuff attached as one unit that I was needing. Basically I dropped the spare tire, pulled a shield and unbolted the canister. I would recomend an air gun b/c the threads will be rusty. Assembly was easy although I did make notes on what hose was hooked where. Hope this helps someone out.
