My '05 sienna has been smelling more and more musty since about last April. I can't leave the rear seats upright without strong mildew odor. Checking last night (Merry Christmas) I now learn that moisture's getting into trunk, a leakage/seepage issue. Anyone know what Toyota says and does for this? Any service bulletins? I can't sell it with this odor. My kids got sick to their stomach on way to grandma's, without a horse drawn sleigh ride.
Hmmm, now that i think of it, i often get wet in the trunk...I will check that out....I have a mold smell that comes from my ac in summer (am in FL now so guess what!). The mechanic said the ac duct was blocked and he opened it but the smell persists. Does anyone know a reputable way to clean the air system?
My dealer found the problem in the trunk causing mold. turns out, there was a 6-inch opening under the car, likely due to a factory failure to properly crimp the metal that was supposed to cover that area. the dealer thinks it came loose within the first 12 months, altho Toyota refused to cover this under warranty. Dealer picked up the tab, removing all matting/padding under carpet, and doing a 2-foot wide patch with lots of caulk. they also put down mold spore killer, expected to do the trick within one week. look for moisture in the trunk area by feeling the carpet. if there is any moisture, it might be the same thing. good luck
I have a 2001 Siena which over the weekend we discovered water in the back of the van. The carpet pad from the rear door to midway up the middle of the last row of seats is soaking wet. We have taken two buckets of water out of the pad using a steam cleaner.
Now we need to find out how the water got there in the first place. We have done the soaking on the outside with someone in the van and nothing. We filled the washer fluid and ran it for a while, nothing. While the carpet continues to dry (two days now) the van is sitting in the drive way and no new water.
Any ideas? Of course it is out of any warranty (was five in November). I am fortunate that we do not have any mold anywhere that we can see.
If anyone can offer any suggestions for us to find a leak that would be great or suggestions on how to get it fixed besides a dealer.
I've got a 2002 xle and have been having a reocurring problem with the padding and carpet getting wet in the driver and passenger floor boards. I have noticed that the windshield seals that seal the sides are dry rotted and falling out. I just pulled up the carpet for second time to let it dry out. Last time, I dried it out and put it back dry. Never drove the vehicle but it rained outside and when we came back out, the floor was wet again. I'll redry over the next week and try to bring it to a car wash to see if that exposes the leak. I'll post my results when I come to a conclusion.
Its a Corrosion Perferation Warrenty meaning only if the rust develops a hole in a panel of the vehicle. We just ran out of warrenty a few months ago with our 02 Sienna XLE LTD. Still haven't reached the 100000KM Part of the warrenty though. Only the 5 year part. The dealership should be nice enough to let us use the Powertrain warranty though.

Turns out that my sunroof is leaking. Now I need to find out how to fix it.
