Ihave a 2000 Sienna XLS. For the last three months the odor has been so bad when parked in the garage my entire garage stinks. My guy who does my detailing. Finally took all the carpet out even under the front seats to the firewall. The entire passenger compartment was wet and there was so much mold in the vents it had to be scraped out with a putty knife. I feel like the van is a total loss and wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience. Thanks Danbear
There was a technical service bulletin from Toyota which describes moisture and odors coming from a rear air duct. I took it in and had that replaced. I can't believe that is what was causing moisture clear to the front of the vehicle. I am trying to see if Toyota will replace the carpet and pad as it still stinks inside.
We have a moldy smell and mildew on the carpet pad of our 2000 Sienna also. Tell me where and when the service advisory came out (we didn't receive one). Was the leak from the rear air duct? or was it from somewhere else?
We took the car into Toyota and they didn't seem to know what caused the leak. I have been trying to dry the carpet and am spraying it with Lysol and Fabreeze.
Good luck with your carpet quest. Wonder if a carpet dealer (for homes) might be of help. Did you keep the old carpet? You could use it as a pattern for the new carpet.
Hope to hear from you so that we can find the leak and stop it. Thanks.
We have been fighting a moldy smell since we purchased the car used 3 months ago. 2 days ago, we pulled up the carpeting to dry it out, and found the carpet and pad were full of mold.
Could be a plugged AC drain line, leaky windwheild washer lines, leaky coolant lines, leaky glass or when you bought the car, the dealer could have forgotten to remove the drain plugs in the body.
Well, we had the car almost dried out, and then we drove it over the weekend in the rain. Most of the water is in the back of the car, and we get so much in there it actually pulls in the slots for the seats.
We just had our 2001 Sienna XLE in the shop due to water leaks. The rear carpet in the van was soaked and the drivers side floor was full of water. They say the weatherstrip seals around the drivers side window and the liftgate failed. Of course the vehicle is out of warranty now, but from the appearance of rust spots on the floor it looks like its been going on for quite a while.
