Question 1999 Sienna engine immobiliser system

Does anyone know how to reset the theft prevention system when it gets set? Every time my battery dies, the engine locks up and the red indicator light flashes on and off with a sound. But the engine will not turn over, even after the battery is charged. There is some kind of combination with pushing the button next to the pedal and the key in the ignition to unlock it. Does anyone know how to do this? It is so annoying and aggravating when this happens. I am practically stranding until it gets unlocked. I hate to tow it to a dealer. H E L P.

Hello gloria714, here is the instructions for programming your key:

1 - insert your key in the ignition key cylinder. (do not turn the ignition on)

2 - (within 15 seconds) depress and release the acceleration pedal 5 times.

3 - (within 20 seconds) depress and release the brake pedal 6 times and remove the key from the ignition key cylinder.

4 - (within 10 seconds) insert a new key (or your original key) back into the key cylinder.

5 - (withing 10 seconds) depress and release the acceleration pedal 1 time. Watch to see if the security indicator blinks.

6 - after 60 seconds, your key is programmed or remove the key or depress the brake pedal within 10 seconds after you depress and release the acceleration pedal 1 time as instruction #5 says.

7 - your key is now programmed again.

You can also program additional keys with these same instructions. All you have to do is to remove the 1st key and insert a new key within 10 seconds of the re-programming of your key and start with #4 and continue down to #6.

You can program up to 6 keys.

good luck,

Alan
