Hello,
I need some information here for my 2004 sienna van. I bring my van few years ago for checking the a/c is not cold. They come back saying nothing wrong and I took their word.
Since my wife are usually doing the driving.
But now I am the one who driving the van now. I still notice trhe a/c still not cold. I bring it to a shop to check and he told me the right hand side the vent is blowing cold air but the driver size is blowing warm but not cold air. So there is something wrong inside the dash.
I nortice the same problem too before I bring to him. Now since the van is not cover and is very hard for me to prove that I have this problem since day one I purchase the Van.
And the dealer just check the A/C unit not inside the dash. I was wonder is this a very hard fix or repair and looks like the by pass is close or not complete open on the driver side. Is this control by a switches or by electronic to open and shut the vent
Before you have anyone rip the dash apart make sure freon level is up to snuff, I've seen this condition fixed more than once with nothing more than filling system.

The shop check it saying the freon is not a problem. Just don't know the same vent one side is blowing muct more cooler are than other. The central one in the middle of the dash board. Well the waather is not very hot now. Will see later.
Please I need help with my A/C as well. I have a Sienna 06 van, working perfectly with very low mileage, it is a second car. Suddenly today I found the a/c and fan at the front not working, but the fan at the back works .. not compressor not working at all. I thought it could be the fuse and I went checking the fuse under the driver kick panel, and the driver side in the engine compartment, they look like they are good to me, couldn't locate one that is directly related to a/c. any ideas?? Please help.
Is A/C issues like this detectable via OBD II code reader even though there is no CIL on?
Regards
Do you have heat from the front vent too? There is a Fan Motor is locate behind the compartment box at the front. Have you change the cabin filter ? Check the fan and see it working or not.
I trade my Sienna already. Toyota don't build good car like before anymore.,,just my point of view.
BTW - before I trade the Sienna. Last year I took my Van to other repair shop. They refill the coolant and everything work fine.
I bring the car 3 times to check by Toyota Dealership and they can't even found the problem all 3 times....That sad !
sub0, thanks for your response, the front fan is not working at all, but the back fan does. i don't believe this is a cabin filter issue since the back fan works, cabin filter will not stop the fan from running, i suspect either a fuse or something localized to the front vs the back unit. i just can't find the control for the front fan and a/c. my van has less than 25K on it and i find this strange with such little use.
Yes, cabin filter will not stop the fan working. The fan is locate when the cabin filter was. If you open up the compartment box and remove the cabon filter and turn on the a/c or heat you should see the fan moving and if not check the wire around it.
If you haven't change the cabin filter for a while will is cause the fan overheat ? I am not sure for that.
Ok I will check into that. I am guessing it is electrical because even if the front fan is blown the a/c compressor should still come on and the rear should cool, but the compressor doesn't turn on and the front fan doesn't turn on either, only the rear fan works. I will check again and add more info if I find anything new. I just hope I don't have to end up taking it in to Toyota with their ridiculous price structure and generous estimation of time for the slightest task.
I will bring to some a/c shop instead to the dealer. I never have any luck when comes to
a/c problem when I bring the car back to the dealer.
Is there any relay at the front engine ? I can't recall since I sold my Van already.
I found this from google search. Don't know it will help
Someone quote :
I am quite sure this sounds like Toyota TSB service bulletin EL0 -11-05 dated june 2003. If it is it is a very simple fix...replacing old magnetic clutch relay with new part. $20.00 or so from dealer. Relay is under the hood in fuse box next to the battery. shown as MGT CL on schematic -check part number. If the part number is 90987-02022, please replace the relay with the countermeasured relay P/N 90987-[bold]02028 Good luck!! hope this doesnt find you too late but it might have. Please let me know
thanks again sub0 for your quick responses. here is my update .. weird i know but after reading a bit online i know am not alone. anyway i called the dealer openroad toyota, and they said the fuse is under the driver side kick panel and that the cover has labels of which fuse is for what .. I found that to be true, and re-seated some of the fuses (again, because I had done so yesterday) , they also said the relays are in the driver side of the engine compartment, which I had also re-seated yesterday. Guess what, I started my engine put on the a/c , it took a few seconds of delay then I noticed the light came on and the fan started blowing .. I am glad it worked, but intermittent issues and the sienna seem like they go hand in hand. So far I have had intermittent issues getting the rear window defogger to work in winter, which is when you need it the most .. openroad couldn't find a problem because it worked when I was there. Also I have had intermittent issues with the TPM showing the lights when all tires are fully pumped. Makes you wonder. Anyway for now am glad my a/c is working, it is summer afterall and I may need it once in a while.
Good to hear ! I pick up my 2011 BMW 328xi a month ago. Last week the warning light comes out on my Nav. saying Light problem go see dealer...lol, I found out the head ight stuck on high beams, the turn signal, Emg. flash, power window, all light inside the car, dash broad...baba all not working,,,haha
Took it to the dealer. All they need is to replace the light module and everything is fine again.
Now I found out the A/C are not that cold. Compare to my Z4. I am going to let them take a quick look. And maybe just need a recharge.
The TMP is suck too. Maybe you let most of the air out and refill it and reset might go away. Or one of the wheels is leaking air a little.
Your Sienna is 06, Maybe a year from now. You need a new batt. The problem for Toyota when the Battery is dying. There is no sign and your car just drop dead with no warning. Happen to my Sienna the battery show full charge but is not...lol.
Go To Costco to get one is around $ 80.00 with 100 months coverage. And about rear window defogger keep the doc/invoice that they look into it before and can't found the problem. Maybe it will help you later if the problem found and might be a n/c for you. If was in cover period before.
BMW sales Rep. told me there is a lot of minor problems now these day is all cause by the battery.
And for BMW when the on-board computer found a problem. It start shutdown a lot of stuffs to save the Battery and not doing more damage to the car and let you have enough time to check it out thru. dealer.
Sound reasonable. I don't think he B.S me...lol
Haha, funny you talk of battery on the Toyota .. I have Rav4 and Sienna and they both did the same thing, car kick starts in the cold morning, take kids to school ok, come home, afternoon drop dead not even an attempt to start. replaced both batteries already, so far so good, and invested in battery charger so I can keep it charged if I need to.
The Defogger will work after a few attempts of pressing the button, so am ok with that as long as it finally works.
TPM I reset a few times and did check the tire for any slow leaks or nail but couldn't find. For now I reset it and it works well, who knows when next it will give warning.
BMW is nice, but I hear repair cost is really high when you need it. So far it seems you're still in warranty so enjoy it while you have it.
