changing spark plugs

The search didn't help with this. The Sienna is an 05 with a v6. How do you get to the rear plugs and what is the torque for those plugs? Help is appreciated. Best, Buck

Hey, I got 84 hits on my question about the tranny pan and no answer. I win. I don't think Sienna owners are the do-it-yourself types (no offense intended). From what I've seen, the truck guys and Ford Aerostar guys are more hands on. I have a truck and an Aerostar in addition to the Sienna so you know where I fall on the spectrum.

I have the factory manual. I'll take a look when I get home. Can't promise it'll happen tonight as I have CRS at times. I have to say that I have not been impressed with the factory manual when it comes to maintenance tasks, but I'm sure it'll at least have the torque.

Buck, my service manual doesn't tell exactly what you have to remove to get to the back plugs, but I read somewhere that you need to remove the airbox stuff to the throttle body and the big plastic cover over the engine, you can start there and see what elsr is in the way, getting to the plugs may require a contortionist! Plugs should be changed at 120,000 miles, torque to 18 FT LBS the coil bolts torque is 71 inch lbs. Good luck, Andy

Thank you all for responding. I figured I would have to remove the intake stuff up to the throttle body. I was hoping I wouldn't have to remove the TB and intake. I'll check out my owners manual about the change interval, but if 120,000 miles is correct I'm good for a long while yet with only 70,000 on the meter. Thanks again. Best, Buck

I took a look at the manual, which is for the 2007 model year. I suspect any second gen wouldn't be too different, but don't know for sure.

Spark plug torque is 13 ft-lb (or 18 N-m) according to my book.

Spark plug removal is... All I can say is that it looks like a PITA. Without detail, the steps are:
1. Remove battery negative cable.
2. Drain coolant.
3. Remove wiper arm head cap.
4. Remove left and right front wiper arm.
5. Remove cowl top ventillator louver subassembly.
6. Remove windshield wiper motor and link assembly.
7. Remove No.1 cowl top to cowl brace inner.
8. Remove cowl top panel subassembly.
9. Remove No.1 engine under cover.
10. Remove V-bank cover.
11. Remove air cleaner cap subassembly.
12. Remove intake air surge tank assembly (looks to me like the upper intake manifold).
13. Remove No.1 surge tank stay.
14. Remove ignition coil assembly.
15. Remove spark plug.

As you can see, this is not going to be a 1 hour job. I work with a guy who was a mechanic for 20+ years. I talked to him about this job. He thinks you might be able to do this from underneath. Repeat: might. You'll be working by braille.

This is one job that I would let go until a spark plug fails. Which is not my usual approach to things. But, this looks like a real hassle.

Thank you for the response. Underneath won't get it done. Arms and hands won't fit. Best, Buck

The 2007 is NOT the same engine as 2004-2006, The torque I gave came from the correct service manual, I did not look to see if it is also in the owners manual, probably is though. Andy
