60K service

Hi guys

I have a 2006 Sienna LE that i bought new. Its approaching 60K miles.*

So far it's still running on the original spark plugs and all original parts except for tires and brakes. Very satisfied with the van so far, no major issues except for a slight belt swirling coming from the driver side.

• Can you give me some suggestions on what I need to do for the 60K mile service?

• Also is that squeak from the Accessory belt usually?

• Do you guys recommend doing AutoRx treatment at 60K?
*
I am pretty good at doing DIYs on cars.*

Thanks in advance.

Naaahhh!

Just change the belt and look at the brakes for wear. My 97 LE only has one belt and it is on the passenger side. I change that at 45K miles and morning squeeking/cherkin stopped completely. With the right tools it was pretty straight forward.

You can look up your maintenance schedule here.

I don't recommend ANY treatment. Just buy quality fuel and your system will stay clean. The only exception might be Seafoam (at walmart, autozone). I use that in my boat motor and it works great. People sewar by it so I might put a can in the gas tank. Chevron Techron is also well thought of.

That said my last two vehicles got 180K miles on them with no gas treatment at all and no problems with fuel injectors or fuel pumps. I run Exxon, Shell and Chevron exclusively (I have an Exxon card so I get 3% off at exxon stations and my rebates are redeamed for free Exxon gas).

Also have a look at your break pads. I changed mine out at ~ 45k miles because they were squeeking (down to the warning spring). blead the break fluids while I was at it using the mityvac.

Thank you. These are really low maintenance vehicles.
I did change the breaks and bought new tires at 45K.
I will change the accessory belt as per your suggestion.
I am also planning to go ahead and do an AutoRx treatment and replace ATF and the filter when I hit 60K.

One thing I do with my Sienna is run a synthetic oil. I like Pennzoil Platnum 5w30 or Pennzoil Ultra if its on sale or the platnum is not avaialble. Two reasons. I've read that this V6 has some dead spots where the oil flows very slowly and tends to collect a lot of heat and leave a sludge film behind. Its not that the motor will die with regular dino oil but I like the cleaners and the high heat tolerance of the Pennzoil synthetics. My frist oil change with the Platnum the oil turned black very quickly and at 5K miles I couldn't see through it. I bought my van used so I assume Jiffy lube is what the previous owner used. Next one was a little better but still pretty black for a symthetic at 5K miles. Then I ran the ultra (platnum was not avaialble) and it was black again. Then the next round was platnum and it was a nice dark amber color. Even though people run extended oil change intervals (8 - 10K miles) with synthetics I choose to run 5K. Just a personal choice until my oil looks consistantly dark amber each time.

Platnun is the only oil to quieted down the lifter noise when accelerating while the engine is cold as well.

Be careful with the ATF. It might be a special Toyota WS type (Your manual will say) where you ONLY get it from toyota. Regular ATF won't work.

Toyota WS is supposed to be a "lifetime oil". I'm going to do a few drain and fills after 100K miles to cycle through the old oil. That WS is expensive though.

Also you can do a drain and fill but it will only replace 3-4 quarts of the 13quart capacity. Full Flushed are not recommended.

You can search youtube for many how to videos for changing these fluids.

Another little trick on the cabin air filter. Go buy a good pleated furnace filter (I use 3M) and cut several elements out of it that fit the cabin air filter holder. Cheap and works just as good.

Thank you Dan for the GREAT info.
I bought the van new. All the oil changes except the last one at 57K were done at the dealer. I believe they too used Dino oil and Toyota brand filter. That's why I am planning to use AutoRx with my next oil change.

I did the last oil change ( at 57K ) myself with Mobil1 full synthetic 5w30 and Mobil1 filter.

I will add a brake fluid flush to the list of things to do.

• Is it ok to use a DOT4 synthetic brake fluid in place of the recommended DOT3?

My other car is a VW Passat and it is very fussy, so far I love the way my Sienna has behaved.

From what I've read M1 doesn't have a lot of cleaners in it so running AutoRX might be a good idea at the end of this oil change. Won't hurt anything but if you're running synthetics it wouldn't need another shot of that stuff again.

You can check out bobistheoilguy.com for more infor about motor oil and additives than you can shake a stick at.

No idea on the synthetic brake fluid. I just stuck with what was in the book. My old fluid didn't look all that bad to tell you the truth. I just did it bacause I was in the area and wanted to bleed the system.

Just make sure you keep the reservor full when bleeding so you don't get an air bubble.
