Keys for my '09, some success but new mystery
I just upgraded from my 2001 LE to a 2009 XLE. Ohhhhhhh man.
New Sienna came with one master key and one valet key and one remote fob. (CarMax)
I got two new blanks from eBay, and FOB from there as well.
Programmed FOB, no problem, instructions are everywhere and easy to follow.
Since the break peddle dance does not work for second gen, I found a Toyota Key Programmer on Amazon and used it to add my new keys. It's a little orange box and works just fine.
My problem/question, is I can not find anywhere the limitations for how many active keys you can have on the 2009 Sienna at one time.
I was able to program 2 masters and one Valet. The process purges all keys other than the ones used in the programming procedures. Example: Insert working initial master key, plug programmer into OBD2 socket, it initiates the "acceptance" programming. Remove programmer and remove initiating master key, insert first new key, remove, insert second new key, remove, insert valet key, end sequence. The initiating master key to start the whole thing is purged as well as any key not used in the programming sequence.
I tried inserting the initiating master key as a third master key before the valet key to end the sequence and the security light flashed 2 then 3 times in repeating pattern until I removed that master key.
So for me it's a mystery. The programmer comes from Hong Kong and there is no instructions. It's very easy to find on the web. Search Toyota Key Programmer. It's made to add transponder 4D and 4C keys as well as the Smart proximity keys where Toyota has the press start buttons on the Lexus.
Any help would be nice. I haven't seen anything like this bantered about here and hope a tech has an inside scoop. Materials are relatively cheap, going the dealer rout is very costly.
Thanks
