2006 Sienna Airbag light flashing.

Hi all, I'm trying to help a friend diagnose a problem with this 2006 Sienna V6/3.3. Recently he had his car at a dealer for a routine service and they advised him his rack & pinion was leaking and they could replace it for $1,500.00 bucks!. Took the van to a private mechanic shop who did the job for $650.00. Picked up the car and after a day & 1/2, the "Airbag" light is flashing. In doing some research on the net, came across some info on a spiral cable & how that could break if the steering wheel is moved (too much) during a rack & pinion replacement. Wondering if this is the trouble, and if so: why did it take a day 1/2 for the light to start flashing? Car seems to drive ok but worried about the light? Perhaps something else wrong? Anyone have any ideas? Suggetions of things to check? Thanks in advance for assistance!

have the code read and pot it up here these vans have a big problem with the connector under the passenger seat you can tighten the pins on it and it will take care of it but we need to know what code we"re dealing with

I have a 2006 Sienna XLE and have had the airbag light come on starting at 16,000 miles and every few months after. It has been replaced four times. Toyota finally has admitted an issue and has a service notice out now about corrosion in the wiring harness. My understanding is that the airbags will not work when the light is flashing so have it repaired immediatley.
