2006 Sienna Electrical Problem

Hi- This is my first post here and I am hoping you guys can help me out.

My wife's 06 Limited started making noise from the left side view mirror because the power retract motor just kept running. The dealer wanted-- get ready-- $750 to fix it. I saw on line that there were other toyotas that had this problem and you could just snip the wire to the power retract motor. So I opened the door panel and found the mirror connector, but it had alot of wires (maybe 10-12?) so I unplugged the connector and put a test probe on all the pins coming from the panel to find the one with power to the motor. Part way through I replugged the connector to see if it was still running the motor, and for a moment it seemed success was mine- the motor had stopped.

But I unfortunately not only had all power mirror functions to both side view mirrors become inoperable (which would have been an acceptable alternative to the $750 repair), but the entire HVAC control dash cluster had gone dead. No fan, A/C or heater function, no sonar display, nothing. I think maybe I may have shorted two of the connector pins and blown a fuse/ relay somewhere, if it is shared with the mirrors and HVAC. But I cant find a diagram to show which one it would be. I checked the likely suspect fuses under the steering wheel but they appeared intact.

Needless to say, my wife is not happy with me or my attempt to save money. Any help out there would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,Bill

Based on my own experience and those of others, when weird things like this happen, try the Windows fix first: reboot. Disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 minutes or so and re-connect. It's easy to do and doesn't cost anything. Beyond that, you'd need a schematic to find what's common to the HVAC and mirror circuits. The computer is certainly common to a lot of functions.

Most recently, my friend's Highlander was fixed by this method. The power liftgate didn't work no matter what he tried. Then he tried the battery cable trick and it's worked ever since. With all the software on these cars, they can get into funky modes.

Mikeman-

Thanks for the suggestion. I disconnected the battery for ten minutes and reconnected. Unfortunately, the HVAC controls are still dead.

Is there a replaceable relay or fuse that is shared by both the mirrors and the HVAC cluster?

Thanks,

Bill

Check the 7. 5A ECU ACC Fuse

The Mirrors and A/C Control Assy are common to it (and the Sonar is wired into the A/C Control).
