Sienna AC Clutch Intermittent on/off

I'm currently having issue with my 2004 Sienna AC. Sometime the Clutch compressor will engage but other time it won't, What could be causing this to happen? The AC is cold when the clutch engages but it's intermittently giving me problems.

Your input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It could be an issue with the A/C clutch relay switch.

Having same problem. Just took it in to the dealer. They said that charge was low, and not always satisfting the refrigerant pressure switch. They found a leak at the hose to the rear condenser.

I'm skeptical, but I hope that fixes it.

both pretty common problems, I've seen the relay go bad and i've also seen the o-rings on the rear ac lines in the pass. rear wheel well leaking. I've also seen where the compressors on the 04 completely shell out and shoot metal throughout the whole system

I have the same problem. If you cut off the a/c button put the temp on low/low and mash it back on it usually works for remainder of ride. I was told it was the Ambient Temp sensor, so I replaced, nope that wasn't it. Now doing the above for a year, it won't turn on at all. The wife calls me eveyday, its getting hot in here. So I better go let her out.

Finally solved my Toyota problems. Three weeks after the dealer "fixed" my leak, the air didn't work at all. Took it back to the dealer, who then diagnosed a bad compressor, and quoted $1250 to fix.

They still couldn't fix sluggish acceleration which I am pretty certain was the transmission.

Traded it in on an Odyssey. Probably would have stayed with the Toyota if they had a decent service department close to me. Good luck.

Well fellas, i went to Advance Auto ( I love that place) and got me a shiny new A/C clutch relay ThingaMaBob ! AFTER some trial and error finding which one it replaces because i thought it would say something like the other ones "A/C R/R" or "A/C Fan" the clutch one is like "Ctl Mog" I forgot sorry but its almost like the first 3 towards the front/bumper of van.
Anyways, put that little Doodagle relay in and instantly the clutch engaged !!!!
BUT it was short lived, because now i know why it failed the start with. The Comp sounded really rough, rattling and almost a low squeeling. My 8yr son hit the gas a couple times and WoW !!!! Did she really raise cane then. I assume I have a bearing out? Or could it be jst rust on the clutch contact points? I firgured the Comp was pullling/dragging too much and the relay did it's job kicking off the clutch. But i reckon if it kicked too much, it dies.
So here's my question now, Do i replace the Compressor? or jst the clutch? or the whole Kit-&-Kaboodle like Comp/Dryer/EV/Etc ?
Thx in advance fellas ! cya mick

I had a clutch go out on our old Venture, and from what I read at the time you'd find it much easier just to replace the whole compressor. It took several special tools and getting tolerances within fractions of an inch, no fun. If you think you can get the compressor lines off, cap them quickly, then get the compressor on in an hour or two and get them hooked back up you could possibly avoid a new dryer. You probably wouldn't need a new evaporator core unless your compressor grenaded internally and spread crap into the lines.
