Push Button Start on dash

Anyone added a push-button start to their 2011 Sienna? I am referring to a button on the dash that you would push to start the vehicle. I know you would have to have the key in the ignition to unlock the column but then you could just push the button to start it. I believe this is even an option on some models. Just curious if anyone has done it or if it would be easy to just purchase the switch and relay from Toyota and try and figure it out?

Those of us with push button start do not have to put a key into the car to unlock the steering column - there is no "key" per se (just the fob).

I'm definitely a "to each his own" sort of guy, but aren't you essentially just adding a completely unnecessary step in the starting of your vehicle?

Currently: you put the key in the slot, turn it and the car starts.

What you are suggesting: you put the key in the slot, turn it, the car does nothing, then you press a button and it starts.

Seems a little silly.

I think it's possible to do, probably fairly simple actually. You'd cut the ignition wire from the key hole, and re-run that wire to a button that you place on the dash board.

you can wire a push button type in parallel with the start wire from the ignition lock to push it. I think the S2000 config is like that. You insert the key and turn it to ON, then push the button to start the engine instead of turn the key pass ON mark to start the engine.

Man I pay extra for the no so useful Nav system just to have that "high tech" start button. ;

You could add a remote starter.

I'm sure you could do anything if you wanted bad enough. I have the push-button from the factory and frankly would prefer to just have the old-school key. It's not bad on a normal car but with having to access the fob for the sliding doors or rear-hatch...the thing is in my hand anyway. I would assume it just stay there through the process. I'm also not a fan of you can't shut the car off and leave the radio running (without hitting the button to restart in accessory mode). Unless I've not figured out the trick to that yet....

I'm with you on the radio thing.
It's stupid that if I just want to shut down the engine and leave the radio on, I can't. I have to "cycle" back to the radio accessory mode from OFF.

anyone find a trick to "shut off the engine but leave the accessory mode on"?

The Ford GT had this, and it's easily added to the 2005+ Mustangs

Did that button start on my previous vehicle. Used a starter mometary switch from AZ and a couple of wires. I had to run the wires into the cabin and back out and mounted the button near the ignition key. Like bullfrog said, why add a step just to start your car? I did it cause my neutral safety switch sometimes would be confused and think it was still in "D" instead of "P". Worked out great.
