Painted Mudguards, oil change, other accessories

I had the OEM mudguards painted by a friend and got them installed this weekend. Blizzard pearl with black budguards just looked bad in my book.

I also bought the painted side mouldings from these guys: http://www.sportwing.com/toyota-sien...e-molding.aspx They're nice and paint matches...but my wife doesn't like the look at all. If anyone is interested I'm going to list these for sale. I put a small chip in them (touched it up) so can't return them.

Also bought these: http://www.trdparts4u.com/Scripts/pr...product=329748 and don't care for the look either as they only run down about half the door. These are for sale as well.

Next up is to 3M the front hood, fender corners, mirrors, and door edge. Already have a NASTY rock chip on the edge of the hood. Blizzard pearl is damn near impossible to touch-up even with mixed paint (used to paint the mudguards). Also going to tint the front sides to match the rears and get the DVD/NAV override installed. That should be it for our mods. I'll install full rims and snow tires for winter.

Did an oil change myself this weekend at 5k miles. Pretty simple stuff. I've always been a fan of the cartridge filters but prefer the top-mount like many of the German cars. Not sure why Toyota likes to take a simple design and make it MORE difficult...but I digress. Dealer sold me the 0w-20 synthetic, filter, and crush washer for $40. I'll go 10k from here on. Tires have worn substantially...the Goodyear Eagle RS-A isn't known for good tread wear and these are certainly examples of that. Fronts are a solid 7-8 32nd and rears are 8-9 32nd. I normally don't get a lot of miles out of tires anyway given the roads we drive, but the first 5k miles here have two long highway trips. I'll be surprised if I can get 20k miles before tossing these and going with something better.

Added 35% tint to the front door windows and 5% to the A-pillar window. 3M protector added to the front as well...but not much to see there thankfully!

Looking clean my friend. I'm going with 35% upfront and 20% rear. VA legal is 50% front, but I will take a chance.

Never had problems here in OH. If you're not driving a trouble-making car...I don't think they give you much attention. I've had 20 all around on an Audi, VW, and now the Camaro with no problems. We don't have inspections either. 50% is legal here except on trucks/wagons...then you can go dark on the rear windows. Not likely anyone will mess with a mimi-van.

I was speaking from personal experience, skinny. We were in VA for business and we got pulled over in a rented minivan with factory tints. Trooper tried to say we did that ourselves but we just got the van from the rental agency. And the tints were on the BACK windows. Just saying...
