Anybody else's gas milage, average speed off?

My information display in the center of the dash is not accurate, and I was wondering if anyone else had the problem. I just completed a 1000 mile trip. i averaged 65- 75 MPH for hours on end, yet the average speed only shows 30 MPH. I checked my miles per gallon and that showed 18, however doing the math I came up with 24. I have reset it, but it is still not right. I don't really use it, so I may not take it in for this problem, but it should be more accurate that what it is.

We reset ours every tank and it is always very accurate. Are you sure you are properly resetting each individual screen?

Ours is quite accurate as well. As mentioned you would have to reset each individual selection. I stopped resetting it recently as I can calculate each tank by hand...but would rather see the long-term running average on the display.

Mine is off by about two mpg. So I put the DTE screen up on the display and calculate the mpg by calculator instead.

So you're saying if you reset your avg mpg calc at fillup, then calculate by hand at the next fillup, it's consistently off 2mpg? Mine has never been off by more than .5mpg which could easily be differences between pump shut-offs. We usually run just the DTE as that's the most useful info, although it's conservative by a HUGE margin. Probably 50 miles left when it reads empty.

Yes i am saying my DTE is off, and average speed is way off even after reset. Guess next time it's in for service I'll have dealer look at it.

Since I've had my van, I calculated the mpg three seprerate times against the average mpg. It was off by about 2 mpg all three times, so I turned it off and want the screen to read DTE instead. Maybe there is something wrong, but I'm not going to take it to the dealer and cry about it to them. I just deal with it.

Well i am not crying about it, it's an observation, and I just thought i would ask if anyone else had the same observation. Yeah I leave it on DTE most of the time, but i like things to work the way they should, especially since these vehicle are not cheap, and I am a long time loyal Toyota buyer who is accustomed to Toyota quality.

But are you resetting the average each time between the fillups you're comparing? Were these three times back to back? I assume you have stock size tires.

You might try it on several tanks back to back. You could let the computer and your odo run through those tanks and just add the gallons. Single fills can vary quite a bit as the biggest uncontrolled piece is how full the tank really is vs when the pump shuts off.

My average speed is way off. Over the 4th of July weekend I filled up and reset the MPG and Avg speed as I was coming down the entrance ramp onto the highway. I maintained 70-75mph for over 2 hours with out touching the brakes and the Avg speed indicated 62mph...
