USA From inside open rear hatch

I would like to be able to conveniently open the rear hatch from inside. Has anyone done or seen a door handle on the inside? Somewhere I've seen that the door can be opened from inside by taking off the interior panel that is below the window thus exposing the mechanism and there is a place to pull to open the door. To the mechanism I would like to rig up a nice strong handle that projects out through the interior panel. Help.

Might be more cost-effective to get a third remote and Velcro it to the the inside of the door...look on eBay!
