My dealer wanted 41k for a Limited AWD demo with 5500 miles.....No thanks
Salesman offered new set of mats for free
I do not understand why salesman or managers are so hard on their prices with their demo models. It makes no sense to me. May be they have a way to estimate which we do not know
We bought ours in February with 1,400 miles. Ltd fwd with conv, prem, advance, remote start. Paid $37,500. It's not worth going with a used one if you can't get a really good deal. KBB is useless on values for something this new. You just have to go with your gut and negotiate to where you're comfy. The dealer originally wanted $41k for the one I bought and a new one was going to run me around $43k. I walked....for $2k I'll go with a new one. They called back a week later and we worked out the $37.5 figure.

Skinny2: thanks a bunch. You are very very encouraging person. I felt that $37,000 for 5000 miles is fair enough and also 2012 is just around the corner and vehicle value depreciates very fast when we hit 2012. I have no clue how a 5200 miles car can be sold as new one by this dealer. This is ridiculous.
Ours was considered used because a guy had bought it and returned it.
The definition for used is "un-titled" generally speaking so it's technically new. I'm not sure what the cut-off is for Toyota to honor warranty as new...but I'm guessing this falls within their window. So the bumper-to-bumper 3/36 warranty would go to 41,200 miles and the powertrain to 65,200.
Since you're trading, it's in your best interest to have the vehicle classified as new anyway.

Like you did, I will wait and see what happens.
Many Many Thanks again
Cars are only worth what people will pay, as you can see he paid 37 and change for a front wheel drive used. Looking at an all wheel drive used, you'd have to consider the extra $1800 or so that the AWD adds to the price.
Keep one thing in mind, the warranty is *not* extended by the 5200 miles already on the van. Some dealers will tell you that it is, only for you to find out the hard way later.

Well the Advance pack adds $1,800 to sticker as well...but I would surmise it adds little/none on a used one. I would have never voluntarily bought a new one with that package if I had to pay for it.
So are you saying Toyota does not put their warranty in effect based on the in-service date of the vehicle? Or is there a limit to that? I know Honda was 5,000 miles so basically a dealer HAD to sell a demo by that point otherwise the warranty wouldn't go in-service at that time. I've never seen a manufacturer start the warranty at zero on the odo.

True about advanced tech.
Toyota demos must be reported to Toyota as such, and the warranty starts from the time the vehicle is reported as a demo.
[QUOTE=skinny2;3671672] KBB is useless on values for something this new. QUOTE]
110% correct
You can use it as a reference, the true value depends on where you live and how many of the same cars are available in your area.
As for the demo, 5K miles is not a lot (IMO) but I would expect at least $2K less then NEW or ask to sell as CPO so you have longer warranty on power tran
It doesn't matter that most readers of this forum know better than to pay too much, they will wait until someone comes along without the knowledge to avoid demos and buy it. They actually do quite well getting rid of them.
