Price of Remote starter for limited and Warranty

Remote starter: I am offered $599/- ($499 if I call tomorrow). It looked like a small device with only one button to press for smart key vehicles. Is this a reasonable price to pay?

Warranty: 8 years/75K toyota platinum warranty for 860 (price good for tomorrow only). Is this a good price?

Thanks All

wow...warranty looks great. I bought my extended warranty 7yrs/100k for 2495....bumper to bumper. As for remote starter I think I saw it for 350-400 as an add on accessory

That's about what they were wanting for both when we bought. As I mentioned, ended up buying slightly used and it came with the remote start. On the smart key vehicles, the car shuts off when you open the door. So it doesn't work like most other remote starts but not that big of a deal really. It can't be integrated with the OEM remote (smart key) either, so you have an extra remote on your keychain if you chose to carry it around. We just leave it at home as that's the only place we use the remote start anyway.

Just clarifying: that must be true only with remote start. Our Limited sure doesn't do that. (I suspect this is what you meant, just trying to avoid someone reading this later and drawing the wrong conclusion!)

Yes, that only happens with the remote start. If you start it with the remote you can't just hop in and take off (with some routine of key/button/brake) like other vehicles. When you open the door it just shuts off.

Thanks. Just to clarify:

Are you trying to say that car engine stops when we open the door if have remote only without smart key. But, if we have them together then it will not stop and drive right away.Right?

Also, my other questions: is it worth to pay $500 for remote start?

Thanks all

The remote starter which dealer showed me is different though, it is separate unit having a small button just for remote start itself. it is attached to the smart key fob. The one you sent is integrated into the smart keyfob.

That picture may not be right, but regardless what we have sounds like what you're describing. It's a small remote with one button on it. Keep in mind that price ($348 plus shipping) does not include install. For $150 more and get the OEM warranty to go along with it...seems like a no brainer to me. I'm not a fan of any non-OEM remote start...and while this is Toyota brand it's still an add-on which doesn't impress me. I can't wait to have problems with ours given the complexity of the smart key system. I personally wouldn't even buy it if I had the option but like I said...we rarely use ours anyway.

The car shuts off REGARDLESS if you have the smart key in your hand. There's no way to remote start the car and drive off without restarting once you get in. Another reason I wouldn't have bought it if I had the choice.

Makes sense. On my Highlander I had remote starter but used it very few times. Probably useless then. I might just go with the warranty for 860 (8year/75K miles). Did you buy any warranty?

I didn't buy a warranty. I'm not really the insurance type...but if this thing has a bunch of issues I might get one before the factory warranty expires (or buy a better vehicle at that point...). You can get the Toyota warranty anytime before the factory warranty expires and the price isn't that much different. Considering you won't use that extended warranty for a few years anyway...seems like an even bigger waste to pay for it that far in advance.

So is yours NOT a Toyota system or did they update something recently? Word all over the net is that's how the Toyota system works with the "smart" key. (shut-down when the door opens)

Aftermarket. It also has double the range of the factory unit.
