Lightbulb Winter tire size

My van came with 235 60 R 17 tires. What is the optimal size for winter tires. Is it ok if I install 215 65 R 16 ( Toyota dealer promoting that size for sienna) http://sunshinetoyota.ca/tire-specials.html
or can I go with 225 65 R 17. Please Advise.

Kind of an oxymoron that Sunshine Toyota is selling snow tires....but I digress.

I'm betting the size quoted for the Sienna is for the previous generation. I had this discussion with my tire show because they had done tons of Sienna swaps in the past but he didn't realize the stock sizes had all changed for 2011. I would not go with that 16" package...it is nearly 4% diameter difference which is too much in my book and WAY too narrow for such a big vehicle.

I would not even go to the 225/65-17 either as I think the 225 is also too narrow. These do not handle all that well to begin with and I just don't want anything more narrow than stock. I'm sure a 225 would do better in the snow but we have a lot of dry/warm days here the snow tires handle bad enough on the dry road as is. My opinion...take it for what you paid for it! If the roads were snowy 80% of the time...I'd probably re-think my logic.

We have the 235/55-18 on ours and the package I'm putting together drops to your stock size of 235-60-17.

I live in Manitoba,Canada and about snow and ice you can Imagine its 99% in winter . It is very hard to find 2011 stock winter tires.

I agree with Skinny. The 16" package is way too small for this minivan. That was the size for the last gen. You might want to consult with The Tirerack. They know wheels and tires. I've been a very happy customer with them for many years now.
