why do I see black stirofoam?

OK, another question;

When opening the drivers door I see black painted stirofoam instead of sheetmetal. why?
I know is a great sound/noise supressant, but you'd think Toyota would make it a little harder to see. Anyone else see this?

Yeah I've seen it. Not that impressed but it seems to just be part of how it's built. There's some chintzy bits but there's some nice ones too. Haven't seen carpeted wheel wells on many run-o-the-mill cars.

I see it every day. I assumed it was for sound/noise/wind suppression as well. If the engineers had to cover it up, they would have had to wrap the sheet metal all the way around the styrofoam. At least they're black to try to camouflage their presence.

Yep, for sound insulation. Same thing as mine. Also in 07 TL. Cheap thing, light and quite effective in absorbing the noises.
