Unhappy 2nd row driver side seat loose cushion (dealer says normal, will not fix)

I've noticed this issue since day one and I waited till the 1 month check up to show it to the service rep.

the 2nd row captain seat, driver side. seat cusion is loose and can be pushed down by hand about 1/4 inch. of course the passenger side seat is nice and firm, no play at all. I used to work as a quality engineer at Toyota and I know this is not acceptable in terms of quality specs.

the service rep said it's totally normal, because ALL new siennas have that problem. He even showed me another new sienna that has that same loose seat cushion problem.

Do your siennas have this issue?

Try taking it to another dealer. When you say movement of the seat cushion, movement in which way? When you were a Toyota quality engineer, what is the acceptable amount of movement of the seat cushion should have? 1/4" is not a lot in my opinion and if you start to pull and push the seat cushion to see how much it moves, you might damage it more.

the seat cushion can be pushed down by hand about 1/4 inches, I will try to make a video of it later today.
I was not involved in the sienna project nor did I work on the seats of toyotas. but I know toyota is VERY strict with quailty specs, and any little thing down to the millemeters is considered...

I just don't believe that EVERY sienna's 2nd row driver side seat is made like this. as stated by the service rep.

What Sienna grade do you own? Like Limited, SE, XLE, LE, or Base (I call it CE just to make it easy)?

Hadn't noticed it on my SE, but will check next time, if I remember to. Seems odd that one side would be and the other not, in all cases.

Mine are the same and I think is normal. It's only on the driver's side. The passenger side is firm. When you fold the seat to slide forward, the cushion folds up. Then when you return the cushion down and lock it into place and the cushion has a little bit of up and down play. So when you sit down on the seat, you can feel the cushion drop a tiny bit and vice versa when getting up. When I bought my Sienna, I had to get the seats swapped out from the dealer because the original driver's side 2nd row seat was defective. The original seat also had even had more than an inch play in the cushion. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

My 2011 Sienna SE had this problem. The passenger seat behind the driver seat had the problem. I got my van in April and I noticed the first week I had it. I took it to my dealer and they told me to come back for my first service and they would take care of it. They too tried to tell me that it was a characteristic of the sienna. After a couple months, a "Toyota Represenative" came by the dealer to inspect it. Toyota replaced the lower seat cushion. They did say if it happened again, they would not replace it because they made it sound like I broke it. So I would recommend to have your dealer have the Toyota Represenative inspect your van for you. Sacramento, Ca. -good luck!

I checked our SE over Christmas and found the second row seat on the driver's side to be the same. Little odd, but doesn't seem to be a big deal. Our van goes in for service next week, so will have them check it out.

The way I had mine repaired was the 2011 sienna SE was inspected by a "Toyota Rep". This person does not work at the dealership. This rep visits my local dealership once per month. That was the only way to get it done. I'm sorry but if that was normal having the seat cushion having play in it them the passenger side capt chair should be doing the same thing. Also all siennas drivers side captain chair seat cushion would have that play in it. They all don't. I checked some LEs and XLEs and some of all the one I looked at did not have any play in those seats. Mine got fixed and happy because when you are spending 30k on a new vehicle, you dont want to have play and any of the seats. My kids sit in those seats and the seats need to be in perfect condition. Good luck!!

Mine does the same thing on my SE. Dealer took me back to another new SE and LE and it did the same thing so I believed him.
