Remote start

Sorry if repost but did quick search and didn't see this topic on 11+ Sienna. Has anyone tried any aftermarket options out there? I saw a few at Best Buy that's very tempting but not sure they'll work with Smart Key. OEM very expensive. Down side with oem is car shuts off when you touch the door handle and have to restart. And engine can only be left running for 10 minutes. Aftermarket units don't have this issue but requires you to carry a second remote. Also I worry about installers !@#$ing up wiring. Thoughts? TIA

go to a independent car audio shop that's reputable for installation. They tend to do a better job than Best Buy. I have had my CompuStar P2W901-SS installed for over a month now and have been extremely satisfied with it. I also have the Drone installed with it which allows me to control the vehicle from my smart phone. My installer programmed everything so I only have to carry the aftermarket remote.

I have a compustar remote start/alarm on order, was the installer able to set the "trunk" button to open and close the rear power door? How about "aux2"? Are you using that to open the right side door? Assuming you have the power doors.

yes, there's a trunk button controlling the trunk & auxiliaries 1 & 2 are programmed to control the passenger and driver sliding doors.

would you mind telling me how much they charged you for installing the compustar alarm/remote start?

I'm going to call my local dealer tomorrow and find out what they will charge me just to install. I just got my new 2way system and want to get it installed.

I know the guy and he cut me a deal but you should be looking at around $200 or so for a shop to do it. By purchasing the unit and then bring it in, shops usually will not warranty the product for you. Purchasing everything from a shop will usually get you a lifetime warranty (except for the remotes).

If the shops are much higher than $200, you could try posting on craigslist for installers. Some are willing to do it for under $100. Obviously, you have to be a little careful going this route. I guess another concern would be that since this is a new vehicle some installers may not be familiar with it which may involve some troubleshooting or follow-up visits (I had a follow-up visit because the trunk would not open if the vehicle wasn't on).

I'm taking it to a shop that has been doing Compustar for 12 years. I would have done it myself, but do not have the usb connector or the software for the setup of the all the features. He's gonna set up all three power dors also. Charging me $240. Not bad. I bought mine directly from Firstech. I work for a major bigbox electronics retailer and we get a real god discount on this stuff.
