Hi there,
I have installed a Viper 5902 alarm/starter and was wondering if there is ever a problem with auto headlight staying on until battery dead. For example the auto-starter was activated, but timed out do the head lights go out when in their usual auto-on position?
It's just that the alarm remote seems too easy to activate by mistake.
I'm new to the forum, just having delivered a 2012 SE to my wife (Christmas morning in the driveway with bow and all!).
I don't think we have the auto headlights feature. Are you referring to the DRL's (daytime running lights)? Anyways, everything shuts off when the remote start shuts off.
Hi there,
I have installed a Viper 5901 alarm/starter and was wondering if there is ever a problem with auto headlight staying on untill battery dead. For example the auto-starter was activated, but timed out do the head lights go out when in their usual auto-on position?

Thanasi
He's saying that if the autostarter is used but times out, and you don't do anything, the auto headlights stay on. I believe by "auto headlights" in this case, he means that he leaves the headlight switch on all the time, so they go off when you remove the key (since he's talking about an SE).
So the concern is that you're not planning to start the car, bump the remote in your pocket; the car starts, then times out, and sits there until the battery dies.
I can't offer any insight into this behavior, since I have a Limited without remote start.
i dont not believe you will be in harm from it timing out. the remote start turns your car off, like you were to take the key out. remote start simply works the same way the key would work.

I finally got a chance to really test it.
The headlight switch (and fogs) is always in the "on" position. It is never turned off or on because it shuts off automatically (about 30s later) after removing the key.
If the car is remote-started and you let it time out, all the lights will stay on until the battery dies. (I let it sit with lights on for 40 minutes until I remembered to check).
I can press lock/unlock on the remote to no avail at that point.
Again, the reason I'm concerned is because at how sensitive the Viper 5902 remote buttons are, even just in my pocket.
i have the non HD version (5901) here in Chicago. I always leave the headlight on AND always get timed out because almost always i have to extend some time at work. The headlights turn off by themselves and turn on again when restarted. I had it installed at Bestbuy. not sure how sensitive the buttons on the big remote are but i know the ones on the small ones are. i bought a leather jacket for the big remote to prevent scratches and never had problems accidentally arming/disarming.. Luv the fact i can autostart my manvan from deep within the building where i work plus the security of the 2 way remote.

Thanks Rdgdmd---I bought two cases the other day. The two-way case was a bit bulky, but both work to solve the button sensitivity issue of sure.
I'm curious to know whether your Sienna will flash the parking lights when you lock/unlock from the 5901. Apparently mine will only do it if the my lights are NOT in the "always-on" position. What year is your Sienna?
Thx

i have the 2011 XLE, and yes, they flash when i lock/unlock even when left on the always on position. i wish i could be more technical. i talked to the bestbuy installer before i had it done. i bought 5 relays for the doors to work with the viper remote instead of lugging around the toyota remote, dei bypass transponder, proximity sensors from amazon.
I had a Viper 5901 on my previous vehicle, an 05 Nissan Pathfinder, and the headlights would do the same thing. They would stay on if I remote started it and either it shut down or I shut it down manually without opening the door. The headlights would stay on. I'd have to go and shut the headlights off manually.
I too had a problem with the Viper 2-way remote. The battery would no longer take a charge after 2 months and the 1-way remote was very prone to accidental button presses. I liked the previous models blue remote much better. This time around with the Sienna, I bouygues a Compustar alarm/remote starter system. I have power doors on my SE, but did not need any relays to open all three power doors from the new remote.
The headlights do the same thing with the Sienna. They will stay on after I remote start it and do not enter the van. I'll have a chat with my installer next week and see what can be done.

With a call to Viper, they used the OE alarm's door trigger that is sent a signal from the viper when auto-start shuts down. This solves the issue.
But---THERE'S ALWAYS A BUT--- apparently with the lights always-on mode, it will not flash the parking lights, just chirp.
Weird.
