power folding mirrors

Hi all,

is there a possibility (or "hack") for the power folding mirrors, that they automatically fold after engine is stopped and also defold when engine starts again?
In some cars, there is a keyfeature, wich do this e.g. doublepress the close button or something else.

Cheers mkay

Not sure if there is anything, but wondering (may or may not work) if you tap into the wire on the ignition switch that is "on" or "switched" when the ignition is in on position. Use that wire to trigger a relay tied to the mirror switch to trip the mirrors to open or close depending on the ignition position. Another method might be to use the parking brake switch to trip the mirrors if it's hard to find the ignition wires.

I'm thinking that the mirrors open or close on based on some 12v signal from the switch you normally use. You have test this by using a volt meter. Basically you would bypass or tie in another line (that is active when the car ignition is on or when the parking brake is released) after the mirror control switch to supply a 12v signal to trigger the mirrors to the position desired.

The sad part is...

...it's all CANBUS, right? So it's a SMOP. But with no way to do that programming, you're reduced to these ridiculous hacks.

I don't know of any hack, but if you push the button again after you shut-down they will fold back out when you restart. Halfway there at least.

Canbus is the obd2 system. Not even sure if it has control over the mirrors.

I remember back when I was messing with Clifford alarms there were customizable features like turning on the headlights when the wipers were on or auto locking the car when the ignition was on. It all basically worked by using the alarms internal relays to trigger another another 12v device.

Thinking about it more, the mirror control might be 12v set for a few seconds then off. In other words, 12v is supplied only for the duration to extend or retract the mirrors then turned off to prevent burning the motor. If so then it's trickier. I believe there are window modules sold by dei (car alarm) that will supply 12v for a duration then shut off. I have them on my car to auto roll the windows up when I lock the car (super convenient), but I imagine you could use it to do other things.

This may be getting more involved than you want...so I'll leave it at that.

OBD2 uses CANBUS, but so do most other components AFAIK. Even my 1998 T&C did, I believe -- I had to replace the driver's side window switch, and it was clearly WAY more than just a switch (not just from $$$, I got the old part to look at). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAN_bus for more...

Hey, that's our car, right down to the color! When you get it, let's compare notes. I have yet to find anyone else with the AT package (and have seen only one other on the road).

I just forgot the "Carpet Floor Mats with Door Sill Protectors"
btw back to my question, i found a company here in germany, which produces several modules. There is also one for powerfolding mirrors, perhaps i'll take this solution.

Got those too! Also the organizers in the wells in the far back (gotta remove them to fold the seats, which I rarely do). And roof crossbars.

I don't know if these organizers are so useful. On the accessory-pictures it looks like they only divide the cargo room into two parts. I think for this i can also take a plastic box or something else. The crossbars i also don't need, because i still have some from Thule here.
But the first thing i'll install is a realtime gps/gsm tracker, so i always can see where my car is

We have AT as well. Didn't shop for it but we bought slightly used and it had a bunch of extras we didn't expect. The ad just said DVD/NAV and we bought it sight unseen for the most part. Went down to pick it up and discovered it had AT/Conv pkg, roof bars, remote start, extra headsets, and a few other things. I had no intention of buying either of thost pkgs when shopping new nor did any of them have it. In fact I didn't really want the Ltd but wife was stuck on Blizzard Pearl
