Accidental power tailgate protector???

Using the van for over a month, I discovered an accident waiting to happen.
An inadvertent press of the key fob, (or pressing of the overhead control without paying attention) and BANG!---a major scrape into whatever...a wall, car, or low ceiling.
Is there anything that can be used to protect the leading edge of the door bottom at the very least????
I don't think 3M tape will cut it. I'm thinking (and just thinking) of a thin 'L" bracket attached near the locking mechanism,...or even those ugly dealer door edge protectors (those 1/2" round ones the dealership uses). Both ugly I know. But just brainstorming.
Any Ideas???

I wonder if your overhead buttons are overly sensitive: on mine, the slider buttons activate instantly, but the tailgate button requires several seconds. This makes sense to me for the reason you cite.

However, I did manage to press the fob once, and have a small chip on the tailgate from where it hit the garage door. So yeah, it's a risk. Note that the chip isn't on the edge, so your idea wouldn't have helped...

You can press the button again and the door will retract from what ever position it's in, door or key fob. It's has saved my rear hatch from hitting a low hanging tree branch, but you got to quick on the trigger. Also if I think the side doors or rear hatch is going hit something I click the power doors off button before I get out of the car, that way I can not accidentally press the key fob. All doors must be operated manually in this mode.

That's smart ---I can protect myself from my own stupidity that way.
