I think you have that a bit backwards. At a lower resistance the same amp will create more power. As an example my sub amp provides 220w RMS at 4ohms, but 400w RMS at 2 ohms. You want to wire the sub for the lowest resistance in ohms that your amp is stable to. Some only go down to 4 ohms, but most car audio amps are stable down to 2 ohms. If you hook an amp only stable down to 4 ohms to a 2 ohm load, it will either destroy itself or shut off in self protect.
