Got a post up in the Corolla forum right now. Thanks for the tips and compliment. I think that I will keep the rear end ratio I have currently, if I go any higher it won't be over 4, maybe 3.9:1. I think that is one of the AE86 options. I don't want to be limiting first gear too terribly much, or my theoretical top speed for that matter.

I'm going to end up asking the same questions on both posts, unfortunately, but why would you say I'd need an early model LSD? Are the dimensions different? Also, does anyone have experience with replacing their own differential and ring and pinion set? Steps for setting gear lash? Hypothetically, if I swapped the ring gear to the new differential, would I need to bother setting gear lash? Wouldn't it (pretty much) stay the same assuming I replace everything the same way I removed it?
