Okay. An no insult meant. I would still try the stock brakes again but wear them in for him.
EDIT: See, what can happen if someone is hard on new brakes is a thing called skipping. It is when the pad material is laid down uneven on the disks. This feels like warped brakes and will actually lead to such. It is the reason you want to wear them in easy. This is the first Toyota I have owned and am learning it still. But brakes these day tend to be very close.
