I think I understand. On my gen 5 when I lean on first gear (out to 4k-ish), it will make a clunking noise from the shifter as i shift it into second, as if the transmission is pushing it out of gear. It never actually pops out of gear, just the shift is a bit clunky. Lately I've not really noticed it clunking, I'm not really sure what I'm doing differently but I think if you take the first to second shift a bit more smoothly (make sure you're off the throttle before pushing the clutch) it doesn't clunk. All of the other shifts are fine.

I suspect first is quite low and that there is a fair gap to second, as first will easily get the wheels spinning/ axle tramping making it difficult to drive it smooth, even in the dry. (Before anyone asks I have good Michelin tyres with lots of tread). Possibly the big loading in first makes the shift clunky.
