fjz 80 oil in spark plug wells
I was changing the plugs on my '93 fjz 80 (195k): when I pulled up on the plug wire for number 3 it came out with a sucking noise and covered in oil. I went ahead and pulled the plug (it was old, worn badly and a beautiful clean grey color) and replaced it with a new one. I cleaned the boot and contacts on the wire, put it back on and moved on, puzzled and worried. Sure enough, number 5 was the same. I repeated the cleaning of the boot and finished up the job. All the plugs were really worn but they all looked like the picture of a good running engine's plugs. The truck is running fine.
Anyone have any ideas? Cover over the plug wires should eliminate the possibility of spilled oil entering those spaces. Could the head be compromised and leaking oil into the spark plug wells? If so shouldn't it be gushing out of the top of the well under pressure from the oil pump?
