Regarding DRL's and HID's...

I've just recently installed a plug n play kit HID on my 09 Corolla XLE and i've noticed that not only when i let my DRL turn my headlights on for me but also when i manually turn the lights on myself that my right headlight flickers and i have to turn off/on couple times before both sides come on.
was wondering if the cause is due to a bad ballast on one side or is it because i still haven't disabled my DRL's and causing lack of power? (shouldn't be the problem since it runs off high beams right?)
