Did your mechanic ever put a fuel pressure gage on the fuel rail and check the actual pressure, both cold and hot? Weak fuel pumps can cause problems when they get hot. Also, at the mileage you have on the car the coil inside the distributor can act up as they too get hot. Your mechanic can check that easily with a digital volt/ ohmeter and the specs from any manual, or you can do that yourself if you have access to a digital volt/ohmeter. Also visually inspect the coil for hairline cracks.
