They use to do that but now Lexus is becoming more separate which IMO I think is good. Lexus is now sold in Japan but obviously having a hard time cause the Japanese like the German makes. Also since Toyota used their name for high in cars and then switch to another name but still the high in cars doesn't do too well.

Even in Japan, Toyota=Lexus and BMW=BMW; Toyota still has to overcome that "perception" in their home market. It also doesn't help that the newer generation over there isn't interested in cars and driving as well.
