So your A/C is working...just that it's clutch is acting stupid...
I say you're getting into an electrical problem...It's normal for the A/C pulley to disengage (at least on the 4Runner, I've noticed it disengage, the revs jump 100rpms, then settle back to normal again), but then again, I set the thing on auto climate control at 19.5c and leave it there...
I guess your '90 doesn't have auto climate...and i'm not that good at problems, so don't take my words as golden...hope I helped though...
