2012 vs. 2011 Camry Options

As many of you know, there are many changes from 2011 vs. the new 2012 Camry. Here is a list of some other (surprising!) changes:

Deletions (standard features):
-LE V6 model
-Manual transmission
-Power driver's seat no longer standard
-Driver only auto up/down window
-No longer have optitron meters
-Only ONE 12v power point (vs. 2 in 2011)
-Rear headrests no longer adjustable
-Rear outboard seats no longer have comfort guides
-Colors deleted: Black, Spruce Mica, Aloe Green Metallic, Blue Ribbon Metallic, and Blue Whisper Mica.

Additions (standard features):
-Standard display audio screen
-10 airbags (vs. 7 in 2011)
-Manually folding sideview mirrors
-Sliding center console armrest
-USB plug standard
-Colors added: Attitude Black Metallic, Cypress Pearl, Cosmic Gray Mica, and Clearwater Blue Metallic

The SE gains a 60/40 rear fold down split seat and paddle shifters, but deletes special doorsills and sport pedals, and goes from dual exhausts on 4 cyl. to single exhaust.

The XLE gains a 60/40 rear fold down split seat (vs. 40/20/40 fixed), but deletes the plasmacluster, rear sunshade, and JBL audio is available vs. standard.

Yeah, everyone keep in mind this is US pricing. I have no idea how the Canadian ones will be packaged/priced.

Aww.. I'm guessing this won't even be an option even for the XLE, at least for now ... :/

$10,000 to $15,000 premium for Canadian prices? I don't think so. $33,485 for a Camry LE?

I think you mean $1000 to $1500 ($1k to $1.5k) premium = $24,485 for a Camry LE.

This has been going on for a while now. Lower trim lines no longer offer Optitron gauges. My 2010 Canadian Corolla LE has Optitron gauges but my father's 2010 Canadian Corolla CE does not. The lower trim levels of the Sienna also no longer offer Optitron.

I just hope that models that offer Optitron gauges do not dim the instrumentation lighting whenever the headlights are switched on. In my 2007 Camry LE, the Optitron instrumentation lighting would not dim if I switched on the headlights in regular sunlight conditions, and would only do so when the ambient light sensor sensed lower outside light levels.

We have to go back to the Gen3 Camry (15+ years) to see fixed rear headrests!

We will have to wait for the official Canadian prices to know if it is closer to a $1000 ($1k) premium or a $10,000 ($10k) premium.

On most cars, when i travel to the US and compare, they are close to 10k cheaper than Canadian models.

I priced out a Challenger R/T in Michigan, it was 42k. Here we paid 55k for the 09 R/T .

good to know. the disappointment in this gen continues to add up :|

in other news the 2012 Passat is the IIHS' Top Safety Pick. in rollover tests it's roof can withstand 6.3x the car's weight (federal standards dictate 1.5x).

let's hope those above cost-cutting measures were directed at an equally impressive safety rating for gen7.

Some of the things being "optional", like the JBL and power seats, was done so they could advertise the price as being less. 99.9% of the cars on the lots will have these features, usually part of a package, because Toyota knows most customers will want them. You'll hardly ever see a "bare bones" model unless specifically ordered. The folding rear seats, were surprisingly, hated by a lot of customers on the XLE because you couldn't fold down the seats with the feature and it was always standard and not optional. Some things might eventually become standard and added back again as the car's newness wears off and they slowly creep the price up each model year.

I will say this, they totally screwed the pooch on the colors. Why did they get rid of Blue Ribbon Metallic and Spruce Mica? They were great colors and Spruce Mica had a short run. Both were dumped with no replacement, but they decided to give us another grey while keeping Magnetic Grey. Da fuck? No more Green or Dark Blue Camrys. Oh joy...

Kristy, are you as a dealer able give feedback to Toyota about things like the color changes? If enough dealers did, I'm sure they would take action.

The hybrid has optitron still I think but it is a bit weird seeing features missing that I have on my 8 year old gen 5. Why only one 12V plug?
And it's weird that they made some stuff simply unavailable even with packages, they should have offered the up/down windows and that plasmacluster ion system as options for the XLE.

IWhat are rear outboard seat comfort guides?
No Optitron on any Camry as far as I know now. It's been brought up, maybe Hybrid, but not that I see.

Rear outboard seat comfort guides...the things you slide on the seatbelt for short people so the seatbelt doesn't ride up their neck.

Actually, I think you will see more bare bones cars than before. And way more XLE's without leather now than before as well.

Dealers can give feedback, but I don't know how much it will help. I have no idea why we need TWO gray colors....to match the boringness of Toyota as a company? lol
