Thanks Hansen for the pictures and how-to. Do you mind sharing which camera you bought? It looks like you mounted the camera through the left license plate light. Also, do you think that you would only need two of the pin connectors (for video + and -) if you tapped for camera power using the reverse bulbs?

For those wanting a video of how to remove the center console (step #1 of the instructions), see this:

http://vimeo.com/39967790

You only need to do what's shown up to the 1:20 mark.

Also, if you want the wiring diagram for the non-JBL units, see this:

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_7agNvyljePWFFqZW5VZmVkUEk/edit?pli=1

Page 1 shows the wiring for the camera.

12camryse,

Thanks for sharing to them the video and wiring diagram.

I bought the same type of camera similar to the link that slomar posted before. http://www.aliexpress.com/product-g...terproof-and-shockproof-mini-hidden-car-backup-cameras-JY-6904-wholesalers.html. I bought mine on a different manufacturer in China. If you want to check the link first or I can email you with my supplier contact. Just provide me with your email address.

The camera is made specially for 2012 Camry. You will remove one of the license plate light assembly and insert the camera assembly. The camera comes with bulb holder and you will use the bulb from the license plate light assembly that you remove and insert it to the camera. The beauty with my camera is I still retained the license plate light. Just a caution, the camera assembly dimension is very important. I found out that other manufacturers that are selling similar camera, but their dimension is not compatible with my Camry. The one that I bought is perfectly fit with my Camry SE.

Tapping the reverse bulb power will not work. You can get away with three (3) pins if you use the common ground terminal that was used by the reverse lamps. But it is important to connect the three (3) wires CB+, Video + & Video -. However, I did not try combining the Video - and the common ground which you might want to try if you want. As you see in the wiring diagram, V- and common ground was specifically separated to minimize electrical noise and distortion.

Awesome and love the bulb housing mounted camera.... now i gotta order this and the pulley :)

Edit: ordered the connectors and the cam Hansen posted.

I just checked my LE, and it does NOT have the camera wire connector under the console, like the SE does.

I assume I will have to connect it through the vacant connector at the radio--known as L154 connector [picture of connectors] with

pin 7-- power, 16 --Video shield, 8--- video in, and 15---- ground.

I think this is correct.

Yes, that is correct. If that connector has no terminal pin, you can still order it and run the wire from the back of your audio/video receiver. You need to make sure what connector the camera input pins are located.

Connector I154 is the correct connector (it has 16 pin). However, in my radio this connector is not vacant. Check the picture that I posted for my audio system that shows the back side and see if it is similar.

Good Luck

Would be great if we could have people that have the OEM camera that are installed how us what their wiring looks like. I found a few things and not sure what they are. Can anyone tell me what they are? I don't think SE are prewired in the trunk. My car also has the alarm plus glass break sensor.

I guess things plug into this.

Not sure what the heck this is.... but is it part of my alarm?

The wire connector in your first & second picture is a common terminal that powers the two back up lamps. The third picture is for common ground for all the wiring in the trunk.

I have a LE, and I have the same connectors in my trunk lid. The white connector [wrapped in foam] has three red wires that terminate there. Each one is "Hot" [12 volts] when the car is in reverse.

I plan on using one to trigger the rear camera on. I don't know why there are three BU wires there. I believe the small light is to locate the release handle if you are locked in the trunk.

Should be a connector black/white/red and your brown ground wire at the trunk... 2 junctions after the head unit. 1 junction is TN2 located in the trunk... the second is NI1 located in the center console near the shifter assembly

EDIT: if i get a chance this week i'll look over the harness and check to see if i have power to the trunk when in reverse.
Hi ToyoForman,

I think we all know the exact location of NI1 located in the front area. Where exactly is the TN2 located in the trunk?

Would be great if we could all see an actual setup looks like.

Rear Camera

Further information-- I pulled the radio from my LE, and found the L-154 connector.
The L-154 16 terminal connector on the LE standard radio, is the top center one-- it will have one red wire in position #6-- that is the parking brake wire. Next to it, in position #7, you connect the reverse 12 V feed, Next to that, in position #8 [last on right], you connect the Video input. right below #8, in position 16, you connect the Video shield [from the video cable] next to that, in position 15, you connect a ground wire.

When you finish-- the L-154 connector will have 5 wires, and 11 vacant places. [the parking brake wire is already there].

I am ready to finish the installation, as soon as I can find the proper connectors.

If you have a SE, it probably has the four wires in the the connector under the console. As Hanson describes in previous posts.

Good Luck, hope this helps someone.

He is willing to help and assist you to your backup camera needs. His camera perfectly fit the USA edition of Camry and it has a good price and product warranty too. My previous camera inquiry from the other manufacturers including J&Y, they don't fit my SE back up light cut out dimension.

See the link for the picture of the camera http://www.flickr.com/photos/76753829@N04/show/

Thanks

Hey Hansen, where did you order your camera? How does it mount to the light? Some of the types I saw, you would lose the light.

See my last reply to the camera manufacturer contact information.

You will remove your existing license plate light assembly. Remove the bulb and insert it to the camera assembly bulb socket. Then, insert the camera assembly to the existing cut out. You will connect (soldered if you wish) the electrical wire of the bulb to the original license plate wiring.

Mine, I did not cut the connector. I just connect it parallel & soldered it to the wire. This will enable me to use the same connector in the future if I need to.

the only thing hard is running wires under back seat.

i will post my photos soon,

with the help of this wiring harness you dont need to buy any connectors and terminals,

It appears that that harness will connect to the plug under the Console-- that many SE vehicles have-- as posted by Hanson. Good option and easy installation. the LE does not have that connector under the console and you have to go to the radio L154 connector to connect the BU camera. I am trying to find the tiny terminals that connect to the L154 connector.

good luck in your finding

Hi Selvinraj25, I'm looking to follow your route. Looking at the Lexus mount where does that grey plug connect to? I ordered the harness. One part down and I guess one step closer to having the backup camera.

After checking again-- it is possible that the harness can be used to connect to the camera grey connector. And that converts the wiring to a RCA video connector- so you can run it to the front.

hi i spliced the grey connector and i used the rca cable and run to the front,

i went to 3 toyota delaer in maryland they dont no the part number for the connector cable so i tried the best then finally i spliced it,

the main reason i went with toyota oem camera is lot of people is saying chinese camera works for some time and its stopped working after sometime,

when u open molding above the licesence plate there is a option to screw the camera so i screw it nicely with that i have rubber hosing like it prevents the water flow inside,

other than that it looks like factory made,

if you have any questions pls let me know.
