Windshield distortion and defects

I'm wondering whether anyone else has had problems with optical distortion in the front and back windshield. When I bought my 2012 Camry LE, I quickly noticed that the rear windshield was so distorted that it was like looking though funhouse glass. The dealer saw the problem and immediately replaced the back windshield. Fixed.

Then I noticed that I had the same problem on the front windshield. If a straight object was passing by me -- something like a lamppost -- then as it went by it would look like it was wavy and distorted. The dealer could easily see the problem, so they replaced the front windshield.

The new front windshield has the same problem though. It seems to be the worst when you're looking off to the side a bit -- like peering to the right through the front windshield before you make a left-hand turn. Anyone else have these problems? I'm either the unluckiest person in the world, with three defective windshields in a row, or Toyota is manufacturing defective windshields in general.

Thanks for the replies. The windshields are inscribed with the Toyota logo, so they seem like factory parts. Of course the original windshields were factory, and they had the problem too.

About pictures: I've tried but they don't come out. I mainly see distortion when an objection is moving across the windshield, so still photos don't work. I've tried with a home movie camera, but those shake so much that it's hard to see anything.

It's not a difficult thing to see with the naked eye, though, so if the rest of you had this problem, I think you'd notice right away.

Thanks again, everyone!

i havent noticed any visual distortion, BUT when i was rainx-ing the front window, i swore i could feel that it wasn't uniform...almost like there was a slight indenting dip running vertically about 1/4 of the way in from each side. i remember thinking maybe it was something to do with funneling the wind, or maybe i was just crazy and too tired. i thought i could feel it only as i was wiping across the glass quickly. no distortion though. maybe it is a defect and you just happened to be lucky enough to get 2 extreme cases!

I've had my se for about 2 weeks and I have seen this distortion in the front windshield. Very noticeable in the lower left and right bottom corners. I figure its due to the curve the windshield makes in that area.

This doesn't seem to be because of the curve of the windshield, though I can see that too. Instead there seem to be ripples in the glass at random places across the front windshield.

Here's one way I can see it. Find an object in the distance that's straight, like a pole. Now move your head from side to side. Don't rotate your head on your neck -- that will leave you looking in another direction. Instead shift your whole body and head left and right, so that you're looking at the pole through different parts of the windshield. It ripples as it moves over certain parts of the glass.

I faced similar problem while taking test drive of Camry SE 2012. The symptoms were headache and slight change of vision after coming out of the car.

Have not noticed any issue with any of the glass on the car. Seems perfectly normal to me.

By any chance do you wear glasses with progressive lenses? The effect you describe can be caused by progressives.

I haven't seen this but I can't believe they won't take care of you over defective windshields! It's crazy they are letting it get to that point. Why can't they just purchase a wield shield from another glass place for you? Crazy.
