Blind Spot Monitor DIY?

Perhaps the idea has been mentioned before, but has anyone tried this out?

I saw this on ebayhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/2012-CAMRY-P...08a397&vxp=mtr

So the part for the BSM is actually back behind the rear bumper. You would also need the radar/sonar sensors. And wire harness to if it is not pre-ran.

I was wondering the same thing after the loaner Lexus we had had them and I thought they were pretty cool. I think our cars are pre-wired for the BSM and the touch handle (push button start). I noticed that when I was installing my turn signal mirror covers and found the below plugs which lead me to believe that it can be done. They are located in locations were lead me to believe this. I even think the turn signal wires can be connected to them and not have to be ran all the way to the fuse box as the DYI says. By the time I put two and two together I had put everything back already so I didn't mess with it. One of these days I will give it a try and see what happens. Below are the pictures that i took of the wire harness inside the doors.

very nice find laurido! I think it is very awesome that many things come prewired. the convenience package at the dealer is quite expensive, to just turn around and attach these small things yourself definately saves a lot of cash. I can't wait to get my auto-dim mirror with homelink installed

Laurido, What wire are you pointing to there? When I get around to it Ill take a multimeter to it and see. It wouldn't surprise me if they are in there? I think getting the OEM BSM in there would be a biznatch. Maybe someone who has access to the master wiring diagrams can hook us up. I can read a wiring diagram no problem, I just need access to them.

Yellow wire. According to the turn signal mirror DYI, it states that yellow = left side turn signal and green= right side turn signal. I had a picture of the right side but can't find it and the wire cluster had a green wire and no yellow wire so this led me to believe that they are indeed for the turn signal mirrors. If anyone with the touch handles would take apart their door panels and see if theses plugs are connected on their set up we would know for sure. Each door has their own set of connector/cluster.

By touch handle do you mean when you touch the handle the door unlocks the door if you have the key with you? Dont you have to have the smart key system for that?

Count me among those who would be interested in this, though the cost could be an issue. You'll need both mirrors, sensors, and the button for inside the car. I would imagine it should all be prewired, given that is typically how cars are made now thanks to the drive to reduce variation.
