Me too! I'm wondering if, in the first year, it may turn away a lot of the Avalon's traditional buyers but will not have enough market presence to attract newer, younger buyers. We shall see.
I see this as a non-issue. The concept and marketing was to allure a different segment of car owners...

I hate to break this to you, but in some ways they don't want those traditonal older buyers. I have no doubt the car will sell fine and definitely lower the age to the easily attainable mid-50s demographic Toyota wants.
And FWIW, my 82 year old Grandpa likes the styling of the new Avalon when I showed him a picture, and he's had 3 Avalons with the latest being a '10 Limited.

I love the full size spare because I include it in my tire rotation. That way I can get the most usage out of all of the tires instead of 4. It's not a deal breaker to have a mini spare but they look funky when they are on the ground. Some people forget that they are temporary and drive them to the point of destroying them.
To me it means that the new Avalon may have less room in the trunk so they can't install a full size spare tire.
I haven't checked in a while but I did check out the spare tire in two Avalons the other night one had a full size spare and the other had a doughnut spare. Don't quote me but I am pretty sure the one with the full size spare was headed to the Middle East and the other I am not sure where it was going.
I actually saw the new 2013 Avalon driving around today (in white) man that thing looked sleek!!! I hope the Camry & Corolla follow suit in due time (they usually do).
You don't happen to live close to the plant do you? Cause I had a White Hybrid with dealer plates pass me on my way into work yesterday.

Are you saying the Middle East deserves a full size spare and the others don't?
Going back to that Nautical Blue Metallic 'will it be available or not" debate, Toyota updated their website with the new model and in the color section, it's not an option. But then, when you look at photos, there is a photo of an Avalon in that color and it's available on the order guide. My guess? The IT department just used the colors available on the preview site before NB was added and didn't get the memo. My guess is that the Blue was a late add.
Edit: A disclaimer on that pic says the color will be available early 2013, which explains why cardinals didn't see any on the TMMK lot.
Shows in my spec book that Nautical Blue (8S6) will be built starting 01/13. It will also be available with all 3 interiors (Almond, Lt Gray, and Black) in all 4 gas and all 3 hybrid models. My guess is that it was a late decision. Interesting enough, that is the only color that they held back on.
I should have had two on the ground already (Limited and Touring). Toyota is definitely holding the car back. They do this on occasion to make sure that every dealer has at least one at the same time.

I feel like I must wait for the blue one, seeing I sent in no less then a dozen angry, sad emails about the fact, it was up online and then they took it down.
I must admit, I'm not liking the fact, I have to wait a month or so to get it, but I likely will wait. A lot will depend on how my local dealers Cypress / Almond demo looks (this is because it's my second choice)
Oh well, what in hell is 4 more weeks after waiting all summer
Skip
PS I can say, I'm not happy with the pricing though! The LTD is $40,000.00 PLUS. Man that's approaching the area of some other fine cars.

The some what interesting part is, it will likely not be as popular only because so many will be bought and ordered without thinking of the Blue (mostly because it doesn't show up as a color option on the main page)
So my Blue / Almond will be different then most, at least for awhile. Once folks see it, my guess is, they will sell like crazy.
This color should look more Lexus like (yeah keep telling yourself that Skip)
My dealer called a couple of hours ago and the truck had just pulled in with a 13 Black Limited on board. Told him I'd be there tomorrow for the drive. I hope it hits me better this time than last time I saw it.

If you look up the dealer in Fargo n d they have about 9 in stock.
Seeing the above, I scoped up my Toyota dealership in Watertown, MA and found they list a black/black 2013 Avalon Ltd. as in stock......indicated the vehicle serial number as well.
I just called them and they said in fact it was not yet in stock but, according to their computer, was due to arrive at the dealership by the end of this month.
