2013 Avalon Limited vs. Lexus ES 350

Wavering between these two. Looks like the ES is about 6-7K more - hard to compare.
What do you guys think? Worth it?

IMHO, only worth it if you need an L on your grille!

You can probably get some good discounts on an ES to get the price closer to a non discounted Avalon, which I imagine will be the case for a while.
The ES doesn't have an option for heated rear seats like the Avalon does which amazes me. The ES does have the option for a panoramic sunroof and for the amazing ML stereo.
Tough choice for me since I really want a DVD based 5.1 audio system but I don't want a Lexus.

feature, build, quality... I guess they are very close. But the main thing people pick L over T is probably about the image. Toyota has successfully launched Lexus as a high end brand and people are willing to pay more to get that brand.
Me, as a poor/avg man, I care about how my money goes. I agress L is a nice car but I am not willing to pay more just for the brand and even more on my insurance.

On the other hand, if you have money to spend, go with L

But that L on the grille! Soooo pretty Premium gas FTL though.

And you can't really ask us if it's worth it. What do YOU want? What do YOU think? We can't determine what you want in a car. Either car will be the perfect choice for someone, which person are you?

And isn't the ES more of a Camry in terms of size and features? I'm not too familiar with new cars myself.

The new ES is based on the Avalon platform now.

All sources unanimously point to the Avalon as being the better car. And as a bonus, it's cheaper. Hard to argue with that.

I wouldn't necessarily say better, but I would say that the Avalon represents a great value. The ES does offer a nicer interior, albeit barely and has a few more gizmos but Toyota really out did themselves with the Avalon.

I couldn't agree with you more. This statement sums it up.

No.

Reviews are saying the Avalon is the BETTER car. Like I said. I trust the guys that do this stuff for a living.

What you choose to believe is up to you.

Most automotive reviewers favor sporty handling and their evaluation of similarly tested vehicles (Avalon/ES350) state this. BTW, this was Motor Trends Car of The Year evaluation of many vehicles, not a direct test of the Avalon vs. the ES350. It's better (according to their criteria) but may not meet the ride requirements of someone spending 40-46K and who wants to be coddled and expects a creamy smooth and serene ride with ammenities the Avalon doesn't offer. The Avalon Touring and Limited come w/45 series tires which result in a more firm/taut ride which some may not like whereas the ES350 comes w/55 series tires which may provide a more supple ride in comparison to the Avalon which the reviewers obviously prefered over the ES350. So, the Avalon is only better in some areas but not all. I will say that the exterior of the 2013 Avalon is more cohesive overall and looks better in profile than the ES350 but the interior of the ES is far more opulent than the new Avalon in every way.

I've seen both the 2013 Avalon and ES350 and the ES had a more refined appearance and the interior was extremely luxurious whereas the Avalon was merely very nice. I do think the new Avalon is one of the Best that Toyota has come out with recently and it should do very well.
