New Scion brake smell
I just got a new Scion XB (I've had it a little less than 2 weeks). I don't drive the car every day and when I do, it's only about 10 miles a day.
When I bought the car new, I had the dealer to their undercoating program on the car for rust prevention, interior fabric damage prevention, etc. I think they called it TSB system (some sort of program that uses NASA technology to undercoat the metal and help prevent rusting).
Anyway, since picking up the car, when I park it, I notice a subtle "burning" sort of smell coming from the rear tires. No smoke at all -- just a subtle smell. The drive rear side is less strong, but the passenger rear is more noticeable (you can smell it when you put your face about a foot from the tire).
The brakes seem to work fine. I was wondering if this is part of a normal "break in" for a new car, since I've never had a new car before. Or is it possible the odor is from the undercoating (perhaps some sprayed onto the brakes and it's burning off?)
Any suggestions or comments would be helpful. Thanks.
