Pics of my Spectre Prototype Cold Air Intake

Well here they are... I have been so friggin busy that I have had no time to post the pics of the CAI that Speed by Spectre built for me. It now has 3.5" tubing and the cold air is being ducted from my front bumper up to the filter that has a wide open area to take in all the air. They also built a custom heat shield that closes it to the hood and makes a box for the filter to be housed in. The overall gains were 10 HP and 14 LBS torque and believe it or not I have gotten up to 42 MPG on the freeway and averaged in town about 35. With all that being said here are the picture of my xD and one of my wife's Corolla just because that was my first Toyota I started playing with, it's my baby...

I had my doubts when you first posted about this ... Specter being an Autozone brand. It turned out really nice. I like the box it has too.
Altho it doesn't really look like a CAI. A true CAI would be piped out of the engine bay into a fender or lower bumper putting the filter in a location less affected by engine temperature.

Well designed intakes use heat shields to isolate the air filter from the rest of the engine compartment, providing cooler air from the front or side of the engine bay. - Wikipedia Cold Air Intakes

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_air_intake

I don't know why everyone on this site wants to be a know it all about every damn thing that has to do with a car. A Cold Air Intake is simply what it says in it's name... getting cold air into the intake by whatever means necessary. Some are going to be different than others, that's half the fun of playing with cars is trying to figure out what works best. If you are such a guru on performance parts, then I suggest you start manufacturing them and make some money with that mouth of yours. Best of luck in your business venture. Last time I checked Spectre made quite a bit of money and you may want to do a little more reseach on them as a company before you start bad mouthing them or their means of design and method.

A. Wow WTF, Mr.Defensive? I told you it looked good, not cheap and crappy.

B. Don't believe everything you read on the internet. ...especially Wikipedia. Just because your's has a box around it doesn't mean its well designed. That heat shield with no additional insulation is only going to heat up with prolonged exposure to the temps in the engine bay. And I only said it didn't LOOK like a true CAI. From the photos it looks like a Short Ram Intake with a fancy heat shield. A "true" cold air intake would have some kind of direct source of fresh 'cooler' outside air. Most CAIs actually pass thru the unibody and in to the cavity in front of one of the front wheels where they can get fresh air from the existing vents on the front of the car. Additionally I don't see any way the box you have seals above the intake pipe and even if it does any bit of air moving thru the part of the pipe not shielded by the box is going to suffer from heat soak.

C. Are you fcuking kidding me. Do some research before you mouth off. I haven't dedicated my time here for the past +7 years because I like typing. I do happen to know what I'm talking about. I've probably built more cars than you are years old and most of them professionally for other people. I have no interest in manufacturing parts, I enjoy the hobby and participating in the associated sports and if I do find myself in need something that doesn't already exist I have the resources to have it fabricated.

D. I never said Spectre was a bad brand. I only said it was available at AutoZone. In a pinch I've used Spectre bits on several cars I've built and they've held up just fine. But by your money making theory APC has got to be king and Greddy/Trust must be cheap crap because they're going out of business.

E. Your other post has been locked for double posting.

F. Consider this a warning - Rule# 10. Ideas and opinions may be challenged, but NO personal attacks.

G. Keep on modding because ultimately it is up to you and your personal preference and you should never let anyone's opinion of anything stand in your way of expressing yourself.
