So Autoblog.com is reporting that the Toyota FT-86 will also be badged as the Scion FT-S. What is going to differentiate the models, since they'll both be sitting under one roof at the dealerships? My guess - content.
No that is not correct. It has nothing to do with Scion. FT-86 is confirmed to be a Toyota in North America.
According to CAR magazine interview of the chief engineer of FT-86, he confirmed FT-86 will be badged a Toyota in North America, but he explained they want to take some of the successful customization options in Scion and bring it into Toyota North America so that they can lower the age demographics of Toyota, which is alarmingly high close to 50 years.
It is intended to be a Toyota's brand image builder. It has nothing to do with Scion or Lexus.
Besides, the FT-86 will be priced well above the MSRP cap of $20,000 on a Scion branded car.

Last October the Wall Street Journal reported the following:
Quote:
Toyota executives also told dealers they were committed to reviving the
struggling, youth-oriented Scion brand and were bringing a slate of new
products, the people said.
The new Scion models include a production version of its FT-86 concept car as
well as the already-announced Scion iQ subcompact, the people said.
It seems that the FT-86 is going to used to get people into Scion. It also seems likely that Toyota will have their own version - they need a sporty car in their line-up and to maybe help bring the average age of a buyer down.
Guess we'll have to wait and see. Don't really care if it's a Toyota, Scion or both - just get it to us. We'll be the winners.
I am sure Scion will get some new cars. They will be Scion specific cars and be appropriately priced keeping the price cap of $20,000 rule that Toyota set for Scion.
I just posted what CAR magazine just revealed in the January edition and it came directly from the chief engineer of the FT-86. He confirmed it will be a Toyota in North America and it is the latest.
I would highly recommend reading that interview with the chief engineer.

We shall see...the tC spec sold for two model years before getting canned; obviously, most of its buyers wanted the "nice" features. The so-called tuners whom Scion were targetting were notably absent in buying the Spec version.
The Spec tC was never intended to by a big seller, in fact it was a limited production car to begin with.....

Certainly looking more likely that Scion is getting, at least, a Scion branded version of the FT-86. Check out this website and video. Pretty clear it's a FT-86.
Today is the day of the Scion Reveal.....Anyone else going to watch? 1:40pm EST. I'm READY!!!!!!
