I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that you need maintenance. LOL. Or, if you have done the maintenance- (probably just oil and filter change)- where ever you got it done forgot to reset the light. There might be instructions on how to reset the light in the owners manual.

Hope this helps,

Robert

That light comes on at about each 5000 mile point to remind about oil change. Check owners manual for cancel info.

Came across this today at Scion Life
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oil Change light operation
Hey guys, Does everyone know how to reset the oil change light on your car? If not, shame on you and RTFM. Now that we are up to speed, one thing that is not in TFM is that the light can be set for various mileages. I won't offer a suggestion on how often you should change your oil, but when you hold the odometer reset knob and turn on the ignition, 5 bars in the odometer display flash and then sequentially go out. Each of these bars represents 1k miles. If you want to set the light to come on in 3k miles, let go of the reset knob with 2 bars remaining. 4k with 1 bar remaining and so on....Each bar that goes out will be 1k miles before the light comes on. In case you didn't know and would like to use this function.

boilerman, I had reset my light the same way you had explained. I held the reset knob, started the ignition and noticed the bars counting down. I didn't know that I was actually setting the light to go off the next time, but what actually happened was that apprx. 3,500 miles were ADDED to my main Odometer!!! I have contacted dealers as well as the Toyota headquarters to find out why miles were added to my car. No one has any idea how it could happen and they pretty much don't believe me that it did. Have you ever heard of this, and would you know how to correct it. I'm on a lease and I just added 3,500 miles just by sitting in my driveway. Help???

Uh are you sure about that? Maybe you've always had the odometer on say, "trip A" and it counted and counted, but after playing with your odomoter like you said above, you put it back to where it should be, on the main reading..??

Sounds like you changed the setting from Miles to Kilometers. This would change the reading and increase the numbers ie...3000 miles is 5000 kilometers.

Ooops...sorry did not see the post above!

Thanks for your replies, I hadn't thought of the kilos. Would you know how to change it back. I am certain that it wasn't any of the trip meters. But the kilometer thing would make sense.

Alldata doesn't tell me how to do this: Only states the following

ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT REMINDER LIGHT

An oil replacement reminder light will light or flash to remind the driver to change the engine oil depending on the vehicle driving distance.

This light will come on when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, and will go off after a few seconds.
Lighting and flashing of the oil replacement reminder light is operated based on the accumulated vehicle driving distance memorized in the combination meter (meter ECU).
The meter ECU calculates the vehicle driving distance based on the signals from the skid control ECU.
This light has a bulb check flinction and an oil replacement reminder flinction.
When turning the ignition switch ON, the meter ECU will turn ON the oil replacement reminder light for 3 seconds for the bulb check.
When the accumulated vehicle driving distance memorized in the meter ECU exceeds 5000 mils (S000 km) after being reset, the meter ECU will flash the oil replacement reminder light for 12 seconds after the bulb check and remind the driver that the engine oil changing time is near at hand.
When the accumulated vehicle driving distance memorized in the meter ECU exceeds 7500 mils (12000 km) after being reset, the meter ECU will keep the oil replacement reminder light on after the bulb check to remind the driver to change the engine oil.
If the light is flashing, we recommend that you replace the engine oil at an early opportunity depending on the driving and road conditions.
If the light comes on and stays on, replace the engine oil as soon as possible.

Ask the dealer....I guess
